ACE Team's Rock Of Ages Announced, Hitting In 2011

Zeno Clash was an odd bird, for sure. And it looks as if ACE Team's Rock of the Ages will follow suit, as it features a similar flavor of surreal art and an unusual meld of mechanics.

But Rock of the Ages is not a sequel to the Zeno Clash, nor does it borrow any of the first-person brawler's concepts. It's a whole new turn-based experience that puts you behind the controls of a rolling boulder, with an end goal being the obliteration via mass of a foe's fortress.

A little like bowling but totally not, you and an opponent will take turns rolling rocks at each other across a narrow plane. You'll be able to erect defensive structures to complicate the process, but you only get one roll per turn.

An odd game indeed, perhaps made even odder by the gifted artists at ACE Team. But it might not be wise to expect the twisted and tortured creatures from the studio's last game--Rock of the Ages will feature art and music inspired by different eras of human expression. In the announcement trailer, for example, the level is influenced by the flat and uninspired "Gothic" period.  Rococo, Romanticism-Goya, and the Renaissance will be represented as well.

Rock of the Ages is due out in Spring 2011 and will be a digital title. Also, I want it bad.

Wish articles counted for the quest..

[EDIT]: Goes through art history.. interesting. Those paper cutout medieval people are cute, I can't wait to run them over with what looks to be the moon? Or maybe it just has a weird face on it? Or maybe it's just a boulder and I'm crazy..

So gonna buy it.

I trust Ace Team as a developer and this trailer sold me completely the game. Still want to see Zeno Clash 2 though

I WANT ZENO CLASH 2!!! but this looks pretty cool too.

That's incredibly weird. I'm glad to see Ace stick to their eccentricities rather than resort to defined genres.

The cut-out enemies look hilarious.

as an art history student i'm sort of angry that you called gothic art flat and uninspired

Describing this game makes you sound like a mad person.  I like the fact this is so bizarre - I'll have to hold out to see if the gameplay is compelling as well.

The slow motion part that throws up the words "Destroy enemiy armies and castles with a giant boulder" has to be one of the greatest bullet points for a game that I've ever seen!

SOLD!

Holy shit, looks awesome.  I really hope this comes to XBLA and PSN.

This is effin amazing!!!! Look like ton of fun and somthing new! It also reminds me of classic games like that atari game where u had to destroy your opponents castle by arcing shots from your castle over a hill (forgot the name, sorry).

I loved zeno clash.  Hopefully this keeps up the high level of weird zeno clash did.

The ACE Team guys are brilliant. I mean, look at Zeno, now look at this. Great minds in work here.

The concept doesnt look nearly as good as Zeno clash's... which was great with story and all...
I will buy it anyway to support ACE... i mean it can't be bad... but it doesnt seem to be better then Zeno either

Definitely seems interesting...

I love the concept of destroy stuff with a big rock, so this does pique my interest. The face on the boulder freaks me out, though.

Looks so much more visually appealing to me than Zeno Clash.  Looks like fun, like the concept too.  Looking forward to it.

I really like the fact the boulder has a face, it makes it look like you're bowling the Moon...kind of
