    Rocksmith

Game » consists of 6 releases. Released Oct 18, 2011

Rocksmith is a guitar-based music game designed around playing a real electric guitar.

Rocksmith shouldn't be pushed aside because of GH and RB.

If you don't know about Rocksmith, I'm not surprised.
Thanks to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, many people see any musical game  as generic, played out, and unoriginal.
Rocksmith though, is here to revive the genre.

Just a few videos made me very excited about this game.

I realize that some avid guitar players will say things like "It's only one string, anyone can play one string" well of course they're not going to show some professional stuff and scare noobies like me.

I'm also excited for this game. My dad has been saying that people should make a game like this since GH1 came out, and I kept telling him that the processing power required, as well as the cost of some of the tech vs. people's interest int he product, was prohibitive. Either I'll get an awesome guitar tool, or I'll be proven right. win/win.

Looks like another music game alright. I see nothing to distinguish this from RB3 / Rise of the Six String.

@Rolyatkcinmai:  I didn't know RB3 let you use a real guitar. Did the interface look like this or was it different?
I never heard of Rise of the Six String to be honest.

Both of those games did pretty much this exact thing, to varying levels of success.

Nothing new, it's just French this time.

@Rolyatkcinmai:  Well, this game still excites me. Hopefully Ubisoft knows what they are doing.

As someone who owns and regularly plays a guitar this is actually really interesting to me.  I wanted to try out rock band 3 with the real guitar but there was no way I was going to pay for a full priced guitar (quality didn't seem all that great for the price).  From what I've seen of this all you need is a cable to go from the console to the guitar, hopefully bundled with the game.  Learning guitar is a whole lot of repitition and anything that can make that a little more fun is welcome.

If they can put together a decent selection of songs I'll definitely pick it up

There is one very important difference: This game will let you use any guitar. The proguitar has capacitive frets, this game actually detects what notes you are playing and decides if you are playing it right or not. As somebody with 6 guitars...I don't really want to drop another 400 bucks on that Fender.

Wow, as an avid Rock Band player I must say this actually looks really cool.

Much more geared toward learning to play the guitar, rather than recreating the feeling of playing in a band.

Excited to see how it turns out.

The Rock Band 3 Pro Guitar (the one with strings) is $280.  As someone who already owns a real guitar this game would be more interesting to try out than paying $280 to try out RB3's Pro Mode.  The Power Gig guitar had strings but from what I've read you just press the strings down onto the standard 5 buttons underneath.  That game also happened to be terrible regardless.

Honestly though, and I'm probably in the minority here, I enjoyed the simplistic 5 button nature of Rock Band and Guitar Hero and kinda think it sucks that they seem to feel the need to move away from that.

I can't wait to try it. Though I wonder if it's something I'll be able to stick with. I also wonder if I'll be able to transfer electric guitar skills to acoustic guitar? This will be the last music game I invest in hehe, they cost too much!
