What will be Rockstar's next game?
We won't get a Table Tennis 2 any-time soon I don't think and that sucks. The first existed as a test of the new tech but it seems with this console generation that porting is the convention (The Last of Us, GTA V re-releases). I'm sure it makes more sense for the money men but less interesting on our end. Speaking of money RDR sold something over 10 million copies AND it was good, so there is some fertile soil if Rockstar want to start planting.
In my heart of hearts, I want Bully 2, but I think it'll be Red Dead (given the success of the last one). I didn't think LA Noire did very well, but I was way wrong. In 2011 the devs said they could make another one in less than 5 years, so maybe LAN2 next? I don't know.
I doubt they would do another GTA so soon, so my vote goes to Red Dead. I would have said another LA Noire, but considering what happened with Team Bondi after that game came out, I'd be surprised if we saw another one of those any time soon. I think if they were going to do another Bully we would have seen or heard something about it by now. A new Midnight Run would be cool but I'm not sure if that would be as interesting as it was way back when.
And of course there is always the mythical "new IP" - I guess we'll just have to wait and see on that one, eh?
I chose Agent to be a dick. I find it ridiculous that it's still listed as a game on their Social Club website. It's been 7 years and not a peep. They should just forget about it because how many people actually remember this was a thing?
For a serious answer, Red Dead 2 is the most likely. I want a new IP though.
I cannot see Rockstar being allowed to make a new IP anytime soon. Take Two has made it very clear that Grand Theft Auto/Red Dead is very important to the financial stability of the company, and I think that is why Agent keeps getting pushed to the side.
I imagine that Red Dead will be the next major title to come out from Rockstar, though I would love to see Agent or Bully make an appearance one day.
I went with Bully because it would require a much smaller scope than a Red Dead or GTA game. Making those sprawling open worlds requires so much asset generation and time. Making a smaller game like Bully at the start of the generation makes a lot of sense.
But we're gonna get a bunch of GTA Online DLC for years to come. Every time they put up new content a percentage of people are gonna buy some Rockstar bucks to buy the cars/planes/clothes etc. The income of GTA Online is a huge concern for investors, because a new GTA only comes along once every 5 years. They want to drag out that income over a longer period of time.
You know, I think I might like to see them take another stab at Max Payne. Max Payne 3 had a great start and completely forgot what it was doing by the end, but maybe a second attempt would fare better.
You had a grenade launcher in the airport and that sweet music played.
...but as for plot, yeah, I don't remember. Wasn't it just funking REVENGE for that girl dying? Or, no, they were like eating the homeless or something. In that building you blew up. Aaaaaaaand he had some persona epiphany and quit drinking and walked off into the sunset.
Original IP would be awesome but I really really want to see LA Noire 2, the first one doesn't get enough credit in my opinion.
Given all the development problems that the first game went through, it would take a freaking miracle for a sequel to be made I think.
My money's on a brand new IP.
