Rockstar Games is a notoriously secretive developer. When Sony announced the company was working on a PlayStation 3 exclusive called Agent at its E3 press conference in 2009, one might have expected there would be more details about Agent coming sometime after that.

You know, or not.

On a financial call today, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked if Agent and Max Payne 3 were still coming. We've seen screen shots of Max Payne 3 recently, but that's not the case with Agent.

"Max Payne 3 and Agent are still in development," said Zelnick.

He didn't elaborate beyond that, as you might expect. So...there's that.

You're probably thinking of The Agency

So, what is this again? *checks wiki link*... a spy game set in the 70s. Well alright then.

Hah, I remember the hotel room podcast of E3 where jeff said the game looked promising.

Now, well.....it is a rockstar game so that means something right?

How about instead of reporting on news that has no news just to have something on a game, why not just wait until there are concrete details about the subject or something to show. It's getting harder to want to read some of the stories posted on here now because they don't have anything important or newsworthy to me.

So when do they buckle and admit it's going multiplatform?
I honestly don't see why any 3rd party Dev would make an exclusive in this day and age.

I see a frightening amount of people mix those two games up, and it bothers me that I don't understand why!

Wow, totally forgot about Agent.

Awesome it is cool to see that that is still being worked on and hopefully wont be cancelled.

Could this PS3 Agent title be something along the lines of Heavy Rain? That would be neat....but I kind of doubt it.

I was hoping it would be like a Hitman meets Heavy Rain

Really hope we get some more info on Agent and/or Max Payne at E3. Or even GTA V (a guy can dream).

Why don't we stick with Hitman and take heavy rain out of the equation? please... I don't want to do a quick time event every time I have to reload my gun, also I don't possibly see why anyone would think this game would have anything similar to heavy rain.

@onarum: Hitman meets LA Noire?

I think I need to buy a PS3.  I probably will post-E3.

How about Hitman meets GTA? I'm really hoping it's open world at least.

I actually found myself thinking about Agent recently, weird.

Who ever said that there would be more concrete details? Why should they take the chance of reporting nothing just because there isn't a ton of substance in it in the hopes that there will be more further details? If there are more details (which, again, we should not assume there will be), then there will most likely be an update to the news article instead of a brand new article.

Also, you should want to read a news story because you have interest in the game being released, and to many, this is important news about Agent (and to a lesser extent, Max Payne). As for whether this is newsworthy or not, how is the staff supposed to relay this bit of information to us, the viewer, if not through news? What other label do you want them to slap on it?

@onarum: L.A. Noire IS open world. The world is also huge.

#38 Posted by Gerhabio (1992 posts) -

Rockstar is committed to quality, that's why they don't reveal their games until they are finished.

#39 Posted by Cybexx (1300 posts) -

Its nice to have confirmation this was still in development but that was always my assumption considering that L.A. Noire's first trailer was in 2006 and we didn't get another till late 2010, this is kind of Rockstar's M.O.

I sort of love Rockstar's PR plan of showing nothing till they are nearly finished, then some small awesome cinematic trailers in the months leading up to release. The fact that most people barely know anything about how it actually plays till the game is out is something I much prefer over the tactic of releasing a trailer for every mode and weapon your game has. Rockstar is keeping the magic in game development and I trust them to know what they are doing.

I wonder if Nintendo's Project Cafe will get an exclusive from Rockstar,

#41 Posted by Hef (1220 posts) -

Well seeing as how sony and R* both said they're treating this like the launch of gta3, I'm assuming both have put a lot of money and hopes into the project.  I assume we will eventually see agent, and it's going to be fucking amazing.

Well, it has open world elements to it, but it's not true open world like Red Dead for example.

I forgot that this game existed.

Cool. I was afraid Agent was taking the back seat to the next GTA. I'm really looking forward to a R*North developed game that isn't GTA. And I'm also really looking forward to the next GTA.

So, win/win.

edit: Dammit Patrick, Rockstar Games is the publisher, not the developer. The developer you're thinking of for this game is Rockstar North.

I think you mean that it is Open World, but it is not Sandbox. The two terms are not interchangeable.
