Rockstar Games publish many original (and sometimes controversial) franchises from their various studios around the world. They are most famous for their work on the Grand Theft Auto series.
Rockstar Operated Studios
Rockstar have many different studios involved in developing/porting, localizing and testing. The following is a list of these studios:
- Rockstar North: Rockstar's flagship studio, previously known as DMA Design, responsible for the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
- Rockstar Lincoln: Based in England, currently serves as Rockstar's dedicated software localization and quality assurance facility.
- Rockstar Toronto: Primarily handles porting for Rockstar's cross-platform games, also created The Warriors game.
- Rockstar Vancouver: Previously known as Barking Dog Studios, created Bully for the PlayStation 2.
- Rockstar Vienna: Closed in 2006, previously known as neo Software Produktions GmbH , created most of Manhunt 2, also ported various Rockstar games cross-platform.
- Rockstar San Diego: Previously known as Angel Studios, best known for the Midnight Club series, also created the versatile R.A.G.E. engine.
- Rockstar Leeds: Previously known as Mobius Entertainment, ports and creates games for handhelds.
- Rockstar Japan: Responsible for Japanese localization.
- Rockstar London: New studio, finished work on Manhunt 2, ported Midnight Club LA to PSP.
- Rockstar New England: Acquired on April 4, 2008, previously known as Mad Doc Software, ported Bully to PC and 360.
- Rockstar Lincoln: A Quality Assurance and localization studio which was previously known as Tarantula Studios. It's based in Lincoln, England.
