Overview

Roman numerals are a set of letters that stand for numbers. They are called Roman numerals because they were used during the Roman Empire and can be found on many of the different landmarks from said empire. They became largely obsolete after the introduction of modern Arabic numerals (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) during the Middle Ages.

In games, Roman numerals are usually found on clocks, in characters' names, or in a game's title. The earliest known video game to use a Roman numeral in its title was the arcade sequel Space Invaders Part II in 1979.

The Numbers

1 to 10

  • 1=I
  • 2=II
  • 3=III
  • 4=IV
  • 5=V
  • 6=VI
  • 7=VII
  • 8= VIII
  • 9= IX
  • 10=X

Starting at 10(X) other notable numbers are 50 which is "L" 100 Which is "C" 500 which is "D" and 1000 which is "M"

So if one wishes to represent 35 they would write "XXXV"
