Background
Ronald Weasley was born on March 1st, 1980 to the Arthur and Molly Weasley as the sixth of the couple's seven children. Because his parents are both magic users, he is said to be a "Pure Blood" wizard. He was born during the first wizard war against
Voldemort, in which two of his uncles were killed. He begins attending Hogwarts in 1991, where he is sorted into Gryffindor House.
In his earlier years at Hogwarts, Ron is saddled with a fear of living up to expectations. His older brothers Bill, Charlie and Percy all became prefects of Gryffindor House, and Percy was eventually made Head Boy of Gryffindor, as well. In addition, because his family is so large, his family can't afford to buy him proper new supplies for school, and so many of his supplies, including his wand, are hand-me-downs that originally belonged to his elder brothers.
