Rorolina Frixell

Overview

Rorolina Frixell is a young alchemist who was trained under Astrid Zexis. She serves as the main protagonist in Atelier Rorona, where she's given the task in keeping the alchemist workshop in Arland from shutting down by completing assignments issued by the kingdom. After she successfully completes all kingdom assignments, she decides to take a journey in hopes to inspire others to be interested in alchemy. She finds a student in Totooria Helmold during her travels and serves as her master in Atelier Totori. Rorona also appears in Atelier Meruru in a childish form of herself.

Background

On the day Rorona arrived in Arland, she helped the kingdom utilize the ancient machinery that they built their kingdom upon and prosperity quickly flourished in Arland. Rorona and Astrid were awarded to operate an alchemist workshop inside the kingdom. However, afters years of dwindling business and reputation, the kingdom issued their intent to close down the workshop. Upon receiving the message from Sterkenburg Cranach, an Arland knight, Astrid transfers ownership of the workshop over to Rorona, where she takes over responsibility of keeping the workshop open by completing the kingdom's assignments.

After completing all of the kingdom assignments and keeping her alchemist workshop open, she decides to go on a journey to spread her knowledge of alchemy to the rest of the land. During her travels, she meets up with Totori and after seeing her successfully follow her instructions, takes her in as her first student. She also assists Totori in her search for her long lost mother, a famous adventurer who suddenly disappeared.

Years later, Rorona was asked by Gio to head to the Arls Kingdom to assist Meruru on her quest to further develop her kingdom to be of equal footing to Arland. Due to a freak occurance, Rorona suddenly appeared in a childlike form. She asked Totori to take her duties at first, but eventually makes her way to Arls herself in her childlike appearance.

Equipment and Clothes

Rorona is equipped with her alchemist staff as her weapon and alchemist clothing as her clothes. She can obtain upgraded versions of her alchemist staff and clothes by producing ingots (for her staff) or cloths (for her clothes) and bringing them over to Hagel at his weapon shop, where he'll craft the new staff/clothes for a fee.

Exploration

Rorona can travel to locations outside of Arland to gather ingredients, battle monsters, and explore additional areas. Some areas contains obstacles where a use of a particular item will open access to that closed off area for Rorona to explore. Rorona can recruit two friends into her party to assist her in battles against monsters encountered during exploration.

Synthesis

Rorona can synthesize any item learned and included to her alchemist workbook. To synthesize the item, the number of required ingredients, days, HP, and alchemist level must be met for the synthesis to be successful. Rorona can fail a synthesis if she does not have sufficient HP or is not at the required alchemist level to perform that item's synthesis. All synthesizes results in an increase in Rorona's alchemist level.

Friends and Front Quests

Rorona can accept requests from the castle front, which are requests submitted by the Arland's townsfolk, and from her friends by asking them in their standing location in Arland. Many quests require a submission of a particular item in by a due date. Successful front quest submissions result in money and Rorona's increased reputation to the Arland's townsfolk. Successful friends quests triggers that friend's character flags, where more of their history and personality are revealed.

Battle

The player can give five commands to Rorona in battle: attack, skills, items, defense and escape.

• Attack: Rorona performs a normal attack, attacking her enemy with her alchemist staff.
• Skills: Rorona performs a special skill, typically a normal magical shot toward an enemy or a magical shot with elemental ailment to one or to a group of enemies. Using skills consumes her HP.
• Items: Rorona can use items that are stored in the player's basket. She can use offensive items that deal damage toward her enemies and restoration items to herself or to her teammates that replenishes HP or cures ailments.
• Defense: Rorona positions herself into a defensive stance to mitigate damage dealt by her enemies.
• Escape: Rorona will attempt to escape from battle.

After the battle is won, Rorona and her friends will receive adventure experience points, cole, and collect the desired ingredients that are derived from battle.

Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland

Rorona is one of the many friends in Atelier Totori that the player can recruit into her party. Recruitment, battles, and giving items that Rorona requests increases Totori's friendship level with her. Increased friendship levels triggers Rorona's character flags, where her history with Totori and other characters and personality are revealed.

Battle

The player can give five commands to Rorona in battle: attack, skills, items, defense and escape.

• Attack: Rorona attacks a monster by throwing a bomb at it.
• Skills: Rorona performs a special skill that consumes MP.
• Items: Rorona can use items that are stored in the Totori's basket.
• Defense: Rorona positions herself into a defensive stance to mitigate damage dealt by her enemies.
• Escape: Rorona will attempt to escape from battle.

As Totori's partner, Rorona can assist Totori in battle when one level of her assist gauge is filled up.

• Defense: Rorona will protect Totori by stepping in front of her and taking the brunt of the monster's attack.
• Item Assist: Rorona will follow-up Totori's offensive item attack by attacking the monster with a magical attack of her own.
• Skill Assist: Rorona will follow-up Totori's offensive skill by attacking the monster with an offensive skill of her own.
