A third Saints Row game is we've been waiting to be announced for quite a while. It was clearly coming eventually; THQ is fully behind the franchise, as evidenced by the production of a movie adaptation. The new game was officially revealed today as Saints Row: The Third.

The Third again puts you in a position of control over the Saints gang, which is dominating the city of Stilwater. The game will take you beyond Stilwater to a new city, but it's currently unknown if you'll be able to visit both locations or just the new one.

"Saints Row: The Third puts you on top of the world, right at the beginning of the game, with all the perks that go along with being the head of an elite criminal organization," said THQ VP Danny Bilson in a press release. "There's no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm."

Not many details about the game were offered -- it'll be featured as the cover story of Game Informer's April issue. It's suggested that the game will be just as over-the-top (if not more so) than its predecessors, which is good to hear. That charm is what really set Saints Row apart from Grand Theft Auto.

This may be my most anticipated game of the year. Well, second to Mass Effect 3. Q4 of this year is nuts right now. I expect a lot of delays, though.

This picture here makes me want this game SO HARD. I can't wait to cruise around in all purple vehicles once again.

I'd be much more excited about this game, and the series in general, if it's setting and characters didn't feel like a MadTV parody of GTA's world style.

I'm pretty sure that's why it appeals to a lot of people. If you want GTA, there's GTA, but Saints Row has always been meant to be a comedic parody of the bigger franchise.

Agreed, however I think I'm just going to play it smart and get the console version anyway.

I admire Saints Row but I've never cared that much for them.
    Still they are always interesting.

Long as the co op is still there, I'm so down.
Without co op too actually, the game is one of the few real videogames to me.
Pure fun, stereotypes galore, silly story with awesome actions happening and customization!

Saint's Row stopped being cool after the first one. Two was just way too ridiculous. Of course that's only my opinion, not that I should have to clarify that.

I kinda hope so. Saints Row 2 I freakin' adored from day one till it was completely dried to death of content for me at around mid 2010, but even I thought the Gangsta overtones was a little grating.

Also, what's with THQ still slamming on GTAIV? It's only in jest, but it doesn't even make sense at this point. It's not competing against GTAIV, and they already proved their point against it with their, still funny, ''Would you rather?'' trailer. At this point it's like they have nothing to promote their series with besides ''GTAIV is boring, NOW LET'S SPRAY SHIT OVER EVERYTHING IN BONDAGE GEAR!''

I didn't really like the first two Saints Row games, and I doubt it'll be any different with this one.

Still, Saints Row The Third is a pretty good name.

If we are going to be in charge of a huge criminal organization than I want to feel like I am in charge of one. None of the whole go out and fight with your soldiers thing. If that was the case there would be a new gang leader every 2-3 days. It would be cool if we could take control of one of the gang members we send out to do the fighting.

I enjoyed Saints Row 2 much more than GTA4, but it still gets old after about an hour of playing it.

I think that while the advertising for Saints Row 2 took aim at Grand Theft Auto IV, it was still unique, fun and insane in its own right, and the comparable things to IV was only that it was releasing around the same time.

Saints Row 2 was by far my favorite open world game. I had a lot of fun with Grand Theft Auto 2, 3 and Vice City, but Saints Row 2 shits all over those experiences when I had them. They redefined how fun these games can and should be.

Hell yeah, this just became my most anticpated game of the year. I got Saints Row 2 for super cheap and loved it, shame the PC didn't get any of the DLC that seems to set up this game.
