Nope, Saints Row 3 is fun, but it's city is pretty empty of life or character and GTA's new direction was a great choice for them.

Different tones, for different games. I ended up not liking GTAIV... or any GTA for that matter, but for some reason I can't sell my copy. I feel like finding an original copy of GTAIV in mint condition will be hard to do in the future.

No. Rockstar accomplished what they wanted to do with the franchise with GTA4. Volition did what they wanted to do. Both games are what they are.

No, god, no. GTA IV was the game GTA IV should have been. It was just fine for what it was. GTA has passed it's silly goofy phase and Saints Row picked that up. I like having distinct games, and Rockstar is better at doing more serious, dramatic fare nowadays.

If Saints Row The Third had a cover mechanic, then yes, totally.

I've found SR3 to have much better driving and shooting than GTA4. Considering driving and shooting are 90%+ of what you do in either game, Saints Row 3 is the clear winner.

Nope. I think the open-world gaming landscape as a whole is better for Saint's Row taking up the dumb-fun torch while Rockstar moved onto the more serious side of things.

I have moods for both, so I welcome having both.

If yer talking purely about driving and shooting, Saints Row 1 was already the clear winner long ago as far as I'm concerned.

No. The Saints Row games got boring pretty quickly for me because the stories are bad, and I can only have so much fun doing random crap for no good reason before getting bored out of my mind. Also, I still don't understand how GTA IV had bad driving. It was more realistic and you had to slow down when taking turns, if you couldn't drive without spinning everywhere in GTA IV you simply sucked at the driving. I also don't understand the complaints about the shooting in GTA IV as it was an incredibly massive step up from the shooting in the other GTA games. 
 
I still haven't even finished Saints Row 2 because I don't feel like doing the same activities over and over again for the 20th time just so I can continue.

This thread has some totally awesome undertones. I really like how saints row is very much a video game. I also like how gta is very much trying to be a grown up game. It would suck if my open world murder simulators were only serious or only jacked crazy. I like both.
