Played for over 30 hours and in my opinion in the top 5 of 2011. So good i wanted to play through the whole thing in coop with my friend who has a top spec PC the same as mine. Or at least similar. He has an ATI card! I never knew about the whole "yeah its unplayable at the moment because of extremely bad performance on ATI cards...drivers..overclocking.....". So not knowing this, I gifted my friend the game through Steam. EPIC FAIL.

Over 30 hours played. Great game. But I demand a full refund!
For the record, I've heard that if a game has a somewhat known issue (like crashing/performing poorly on what should be an adequate ATI card), you can contact Steam support and get a refund, as long as you're pretty good at complaining and insisting you deserve a refund.
I have never had to do this myself, but I've heard people say that it's possible.

I played through it at constant 40+ FPS with a fairly dated ATI HD 5770.
Similar situation here. It looked good and ran smooth on my Radeon HD 5670.

Never use that phrase again.
Why don't you just contact steam support instead of bitching on a forum? Seems like I'm always hearing about some game or another having problems with ATI cards.
Yeah fortunately it is not effecting everyone but unfortunately it still exists and is pretty widespread. The latest official response in the Saints Row The Third section of the Steam forums, under the thread "Bad peformance with ATI cards?" is
"V-Singular made this post over on the SaintsRow.com forums three days ago ..."
"I wanted to give everyone an update on what's been going on behind the scenes. Please note that you are not being ignored. If you were being ignored, we wouldn't have this troubleshooting section opened up to listen and find out the issues you're running into. Our team is continuing to work with AMD on a proper fix for this issue. Please take note that if it was something simple, we would've already added it to the game. This is why we've attempted a few other fixes already, some of which have shown small improvements in performance. We're actively looking into what needs to be done to fix this, and are currently waiting on some test results back from AMD themselves. I hope to have another update shortly with regard to that."

Sometimes "Epic Fail" appears on Battlefield Bad Company 2's screen after dying. Usually when you've completely fucked up in a vehicle. Thought you ought to know.
For something a little more on topic, it seems like ATI cards just aren't the way to go. I hear about games having problems with them often.
OK before this gets out of hand. I am annoyed at Volition Inc. NOT the graphics card manfacturers. ATI and NVIDIA have both served me well over the years.
I'm on a HD 5870. Never had issues with the card. Must be because it was the gold standard of first generation DX11 cards. Still performs great for a 24'' 1080p display. Can even run BF3 with mostly 'Ultra' settings at about 30 FPS, though some maps max the VRAM when using Ultra textures which can cause issues.
Guess what I'm saying, ATI has yet to let me down.

I know. I played a lot of BC2. The greatest horror of that game was that screen.
@videoGaiden: The game worked fine on my 6850 once I updated to the 12.1 preview drivers a couple of months ago. Tell your friend to update his drivers, any problems should be fixed.
Game runs totally fine on my 6870. Just have it all patched up and latest drivers. I guess you can try your luck at getting a refund, but Steam reserves the right to deny it unless they feel you have a really legitimate reason.
@TechHits: What do mean brother? Is "epic fail" not teh hippest phrase on the streetz at teh moment?

if your friend is using an FX card with the bulldozer architecture then thats what the problem is

games affected include Shogun 2, Saints row 3 and Deus ex.
I had all sorts of issues with the PC version to, have an ATI card myself. Was lucky in that I got a full refund (luckily bought from the shop as a sudden purchase, instead of buying it off Steam).
