Grid-based movement is a common staple of turn based strategy games that works similarly to chess.
Health From Romance

In some games, health can be regenerated or bonus health acquired through romance of some kind, from flirting to kissing to sexual intercourse.
Hit Points

An indication of the amount of damage a character can sustain in game. The loss of all hit points results in the players death, or penalty.
Isometric Viewpoint

Isometric viewpoint refers to the camera angle used in many 2-dimensional games to give the appearance that they are 3-dimensional, without requiring 3D models. The isometric perspective is characterized by a somewhat overhead camera angle, askew to show depth.
Love Triangle

A love triangle is when three (or more) people are in some kind of romantic relationship with each other. They can become messy and complicated. It may or may not be competitive.

Sometimes one playable character just isn't enough.

Characters controlled by the game for players to interact with, as opposed to player characters which are controlled by whomever is playing the game.
POV Cutscene

A cutscene that is viewed through the eyes of the protagonist or some other character. POV stands for "point of view".
Quick Time Event

Quick Time Events show up in all sorts of games as a way to make cinematic cutscenes slightly more interactive.
Romance

Romance in video games can either be interactive, in which the player attempts to woo another character, or an unchangeable part of the story of a given game.
Serialized

The use of separating portions of a games story into separate chapters that have definitive beginings and ends, similiar to a serial dramas on television.
Stat Tracking

Stat Tracking is when games keep track of various sorts of information related to player performance or progress. This feature can be found in various RPGs and now many FPSs as well. This does not include statistics in sports games, unless related to your personal performance.
Timed Decisions

A gameplay mechanic where the player must make narrative decisions or dialogue choices in real-time, within a certain time limit, with their choice (or lack thereof) affecting the plot.
Visual Novel

A sub-genre of adventure games, visual novels are interactive fiction that usually have very little in terms of gameplay but focus more on extensive storytelling, character interactions, dialogues, and branching narratives, as well as artwork, cutscenes, voice acting, and music.
VMU Support

Dreamcast games that include support for the VMU, or Visual Memory Unit; essentially, a memory storage device that doubles as a crude handheld game system.
