Overview
Sakurai Shoichi no Janki-ryuu Mahjong Hisshouhou, loosely translated to "Shoichi Sakurai's Surefire Win Janki-ryuu Mahjong", is a riichi mahjong game developed by J-Force and published by Sammy for the Super Famicom in Japan on September 14, 1995.
Endorsed by author Shoichi Sakurai, who was then known for his exploits as an undefeated "pinch hitter" in the world of underground mahjong in the 1960's-1980's (with a biopic series released in the 1990's, known as Janki), Mahjong Hisshouhou aims to teach the player Sakurai's "janki-ryuu" play style through instructional lessons and a game mode where players are penalized for deviating from that play style. It is also distinct among other Super Famicom mahjong games due to its UI, which displays the player's tiles in a skewed perspective while showing each player's discards in its own "window".
