Sam Gideon is the main character of Vanquish. He is a 36 year old member of DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and helped design the Augmented Reaction Suit, a cutting-edge mechanical armor he wears in battle. His mission is to retake an American space station/power plant hijacked by renegade Russians. Sam loves to smoke, and has an assistant called Elena Ivanova, who provides on-the-fly tactical information about his surroundings. His in game loading screen information states that he had a successful college football career, which was cut short by injury. He is officially accompanying the army to test the battle suit, though his true mission is to rescue Professor Candide
In the Western versions of the game, he is voiced by Gideon Emery.
