    Return of Sam & Max

I recommend playing these episodes in order, so it feels more cohesive in the telling of the story. Start by playing season 1 of Sam & Max first, yet this is not required for enjoying season 2. (Take a break between season 1 and 2 to avoid getting worn-out on playing these adventure games.) You don't need to be a fan of the older adventure games to play and enjoy Sam & Max. However, you do need a bit of patience in order to enjoy playing these episodes. The puzzles are usually clever without being overly secretive or convoluted.

It is a classic point and click adventure game. You click to move, and click to interact with objects and characters in the environment. Double click a place in the environment to run there. Talking to characters is done through a dialogue tree, but it is fully voice acted. You will need to find and use certain items, and make the right dialogue choices to progress through the story. The voice acting is well done, the stand out performances being Max and Sam. Part of the reason Max is my favourite, has to do with what he says. Max is overly violent, odd and seemingly a bit unhinged for a rabbit-like thing. Sam is the straight character to counterbalance Max's insanity. The other characters in this season are also well done.

    201: Ice Station Santa
-This episode is on par with the episodes of season 1. It opens up Stinky's Diner and introduces the character Stinky.

202: Moai Better Blues and 203: Night of the Raving Dead
-These episode are slightly below average episodes that drag-on a little bit longer than necessary.

204: Chariots of the Dogs and 205: What's New Beelzebub?
-These are the best episodes so far in the series. (That includes Season 1 and 2).

It still feels like a cartoon show. The art for the game is improved from the first Season but not drastically. The average length of any given episode is about three hours long and there are five episodes in the second season. This series includes such topics as zombies, triangle gateways, time travel, demon summoning and satan. You might get stuck and feel the need to look at a walk-through about once or twice per episode. Telltale Games provides complete walk-throughs for each episode on their website.

I find the length of each episode to be about right. It doesn't overstay its welcome and it never feels overwhelming or too demanding. This second season has a good sense of humour with good comedic timing, interesting and quirky character responses. This season starts strong and ends very strong. I think that episodes 2 and 3 weren't quite as interesting as the rest of the season. If you have played season 1, the gameplay and progression will be very similar in season 2. However,  I think it's well worth the price asked.

If you’re not convinced, Telltale's website has demos for each episode in season 2 for the PC. http://www.telltalegames.com
