Sarah

Hana Hayes voices the young daughter of Joel in the game, The Last of Us. Sarah is also the first playable character in the game.

Background

There isn't much information about Sarah or her past before the outbreak happens in the game with the exception that she was a typical young girl who lived in Austin, Texas with her dad, Joel. Knowledge of what happened to Sarah's mother is unknown but we do know that her mom and Joel were once married. However it is known that she was on a youth soccer team, seen in a picture that Ellie stole for Joel. It's suggested she like skateboarding due to the skateboard in her room at the beginning of the game.

The Last of Us

In the beginning of the game, it shows Sarah waking up on the sofa with her dad, Joel, on the phone with her uncle Tommy. After hanging up the phone, Joel sits next to his daughter and she quickly gives him a birthday present that happens to be a new watch. Joel shows appreciation for the gift and begins to ask how she got the money to buy him a gift when she then jokes around by saying she sold "hardcore drugs". Sometime after she ends up falling asleep once more on the couch and Joel carries her to her bedroom.

Sarah is then suddenly woke up by her phone ringing in her room and upon answering it, her Uncle Tommy is on the other end, frantically telling Sarah to get Joel. Before Sarah could get anymore information from Tommy, the line goes dead. A little shaken up by the call Sarah gets out of bed and begins searching through the house for Joel, who seems to be no were to be found. But while searching for Joel, she witnesses an explosion in the city not too far away from her home. Now scared she continues to search until Joel is seen rushing through their open sliding glass door that lead to the backyard, covered in blood and fear in his eyes. Sarah begins questioning why Joel is covered in blood and is told that their neighbor, Jimmy Cooper, is "sick" and is seen pulling out a gun. Then Jimmy is seen slamming into the now closed sliding door and while Joel tries to calm him down, Jimmy breaks through it. He begins to attack Joel, who is then forced to shoot him. Confused on what's going on, Sarah follows her father outside where Uncle Tommy is seen pulling up to the driveway and they jump in the vehicle, driving off to get out of the city.

While the three attempt to drive out of the city for safety, Sarah calls out to her dad to pull over for a family who is stuck on the road, but is quickly told "no" by her father. During the drive the three get into a car accident, causing them to flip over. Sarah, now with an injured leg, is unable to ambulate on her own, forcing Joel to carry her to safety while Tommy protect the two. Tommy was then separated from the group as he stayed behind to allow Joel and Sarah to escape from a horde of infected and begin making their way to the highway. As they are running, infected could be seen quickly surrounding them.

With an infected directly behind them, they are suddenly saved by a soldier who is seen standing at the foot of the highway. Joel and Sarah watch as the soldier radio's in for guidance on what to do with the two and is instructed to shoot them. Joel tries to talk the soldier down, but the two are fired upon and Joel quickly tries to jump for cover. The soldier quickly makes his way to the two when a shot is a fired and the soldier is seen dropping to the ground with Tommy appearing behind him. In that moment it is shown that Sarah was shot in the abdomen by the solider and Joel is left pleading with her dying to hang on. Within seconds, Sarah passes away in her fathers arms.
