I'm of coarse talking about the original Saw film and the franchise that followed. When Saw came out and I watched it I thought, WOW, Awesome! This is all there needs to be. The whole series could have ended right there at the end of the 1st movie to preserve its rep. The movie was original, had good acting, an interesting story and overall a good horror movie. I think they should have ended Saw with Saw. Saw 2 was great, but not as good as 1. The third movie was unbelievable.

SPOILERS Why the fuck would Amanda go with Jigsaw? I think that bitch never quit her drugs END SPOILERS

Now Saw movies come out annually and you watch them with mediocre expectations. Also the story is so fucking slow to progress after Saw 2.They could have made a great trilogy at least, but no. Now they drag on the story to get cash every October. Thoughts?

I'm not too big on the franchise to care much about it but what you're saying sounds about right. Money is what it is and they made a lot of it.

I've only watched the first one, which I think is pretty great, but I don't know if I'll ever bother watching the sequels. I guess the combination of negative feedback and the fact that the first movie felt complete by itself doesn't give me much incentive to.

IMO the franchise died with Jigsaw.  No thats not a spoiler.  Everyone knows that guy had friggin cancer.  I am looking foward to the game though.  I've read previews that say that the game is not bad and that it is a pretty good albeit gory adventure game.

I thought the first one was brilliant and it just saddens me how it deteriorated with each sequel.

My thoughts were exactly after viewing the first - great movie.  And yes, I thought the movie lost all semblance of whatever credibility it had when amanda became a villain.  Oh and when the metal pipe went through taht dude's torso when he fell down the mountain in the automobile accident and thus explaining his epiphany, that was dumb too.  The last saw movie I remmeber watched was the one with the black swat police officer as protagonist.  That's when I swore it would be the last saw movie I would ever watch.  God that movie was terrible, barely remember anything except it was terrible.  This was about 3 years ago.

Same thing happened to the scary movie franchise.

@lemon360: I dunno about you, but watching the second, and the third, (and maybe even the fourth?), I felt like plot twists were coming out from the most unlikely barely plausible directions.  Like whoever wrote and directed the movie thought the audience was so stupid that they would sap up anything.  I wish I could accurately remember the movies after the first (which i remember surprisingly well), but it's such a blurry haze after that and all I remember is that I felt taken advantage of.

The series is getting a lot of unjustified hate. The first one was good, the second one was horrible, the third one was good, the fourth and fifth were okay. There's nothing particularly bad about the movies - other than the odd very constructed "twist", it's put together very well, the gore is excellent, the music is spot-on, cast and effects do their job, the stories are - for the genre! - relatively diverse and engaging.
There's no reason to hate on the Saw movies (other than the second which was just a joke), they're very solid. Not bad, not excellent, just solid and well crafted.

    Fucking Amen.
I loved the first Saw, if they ended it there, it would have been a classic for sure, the second was pretty good but then the third was treading on thin ice, 4th one was shit and the 5th one was shit.

I disagree. Maybe it doesn't qualify for an all time classic. But it's without doubt a modern day classic.

I feel the same way. That's why you look at the SAW series in two ways:
    1) It's a pretty mediocre horror film series, like Nightmare on Elm Street. Not necessarily a bad thing; I mean, Nightmare on Elm Street also has its place. OR
    2)  It's a really good standalone movie. All you have to do is deny the rest of the series exists.

When I think of Saw, I think of Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street: i.e. Overexploited horror films that had roughly 50 bajillion sequels that all undermined the reputation of the first one.

Then again, I don't think I will ever, ever, ever, watch a Saw movie.

Personally speaking. If films like The Godfather series are accepted as classics, then I see no reason why this shouldn't be. I await the epic amount of flame I'm gonna get for making that comment though haha.

From what I have heard, Saw was horror. Saw III was gore. Saw IV was shit. Don't know much about the others, mainly because I'm a big-ass pussy and don't like my horror games-although I love gore.

Did you just try and say that The Godfather is comparable in quality to Saw?
I recommend you never try and view a film critically ever again and if you cant restrain yourself from forming an opinion NEVER, I repeat NEVER, tell anyone your opinion.

I never got past the second movie, so whatever.  I'll watch them all whenever all six are on DVD.  I'm make sure to borrow them from someone, though, so I don't feed money into the bank accounts of those who made these movies.

Also, the first one was shit.  Bad acting and shitty gorno.  Much better stuff that comes out of Asia along these same lines...like Bloody Reunion.

The first one was good.  However, the ending where it explains every little bit of story to you as if it needs to hold your hand is kind of annoying.  The guy who made SAW also made another movie.  Forgot the name but it was about a puppet and it killed people or something...probably got that wrong because I saw it a long time ago.  But to the point, he did the same thing with that movie.  At the very end he had a 5 or so minute flashback of the entire movie pointing every little plot point that he felt he needed to remind the viewer.

Other than that it Saw was good.  The 2nd one...not so much.  Decent for a single viewing.  I even went a step further and rented the 3rd one.  Utter garbage.  Stopped at that point.  What are they at now?  Saw 6?

For whatever reason I started getting really into horror movies a couple years ago.  Think that part of me is starting to fade because every horror movie I watch these days just seems like utter trash.  They are all so predictable.

Saw is not a classic. Never was and never will be. It's torture porn. If you like seeing people slowly die for 2 hours and need to see it again every year, then go right ahead and see Saw. Maybe the film makers should focus less of their energy on making creative death machines and focus more on creating a decent plot.

The first Saw was a clever film and I'm happy for anything that gives Cary Elwes work.
Calling it a classic is an insult to even the word "ass" in the word classic

The rest of the flicks outside of Tobin Bell were intellectually bankrupt.
Even the gore porn aspect of it was way to convoluted and silly.
Compare this to the wire scene in Audition or the beating scene in Ichi The Killer.

The first one wasn't that good anyway, but yeah there was a massive drop of quality. I watched it till the fourth one and just decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

Saw 1 was not really torture porn.  At no point in the film is anyone being tortured....that I can remember.  Worst part of the entire movie was the guy cutting his own leg off...but ya...he did it to himself.  Perhaps you are thinking of Hostel?  That movie is disgusting and definitely has quite a bit of torture.  Never saw the 2nd one, no desire to.

Haven't seen any good horror or scary movies in such a long time.  I caught about 30 minutes of some movie on TV last night called Dying Breed which actually looked kinda good tho.  Happened to have the guy from SAW in it actually....the guy that seemed pretty shitty at acting.  But he seemed alright in this movie, maybe because he wasn't faking an American accent this time around.

Yes,well,it was a great classic film, perfect in any way.And well,it shouldn't end with them making an totally fine franchise.Your right on that one,but the game is still good in many ways, but still mediocre.

Saw 1 was a classic, it did not need to continue. Great plot twist that was original and hard to see coming that the sequels just tried to emulate but failed horribly.

" Saw is not a classic. Never was and never will be. It's torture porn. If you like seeing people slowly die for 2 hours and need to see it again every year, then go right ahead and see Saw. Maybe the film makers should focus less of their energy on making creative death machines and focus more on creating a decent plot. "
    didn't see the first one.

Cube was terrible and completely predictable.

I wouldn't exactly call the first Saw a classic.
