Overview

In One Thousand and One Nights, later known as the Arabian Nights, Scheherazade (Persian: شهرزاد) was the wife of a cruel Persian king who planned to have her executed the day after they were married. Scheherazade saved herself by telling the king a new story each night but never finishing it until the next night, making him so curious that he postponed her execution each time.

Variations on Scheherazade have appeared in Soul Calibur IV and the NES game The Magic of Scheherazade.

Soul Calibur

Scheherazade in Soul Calibur comes from a kingdom of people resembling elves. She left her home village, which was forbidden on punishment of death, to investigate the war between Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, which she felt would make a great story. During her travels, she fell in love with a human man, which was the final straw. She was forcibly taken back to her homeland by her people, and because of her prominence as a popular storyteller, Scheherazade was not killed, but was instead imprisoned her inside a giant tree for hundreds of years. When her imprisonment finally ended, she still proudly defied her people and left her homeland, hopefully for good; this time she intended to find out whether or not the man she had loved, now long dead, had left behind some kind of legacy. Unbeknownst to Scheherazade, that man had indeed crafted a legacy for himself; he had founded the powerful European nation of Wolfkrone, which survived and prospered to the current day, with its current crown princess being Soul Calibur main roster character Hilde von Krone. the storyteller is a bonus character in Soul Calibur IV, designed by guest artist Yutaka Izubuchi. She has distinctly pointed ears and is described as several thousand years old, leading to speculation that she's some sort of elf. Her weapon is a rapier and she uses Amy's move set.

The Magic of Scheherazade

In The Magic of Scheherazade, she is the main character's love interest. The game opens with him being told by his travelling companion, Coronya, that Scheherazade has been kidnapped by an evil magician, Sabaron. The game follows the main character's adventures as he tries to get her back.
