Due to the fact that mostly children go to schools, they are rarely used in games which have a murderous context as they cause huge amounts of controversy. Schools have become a bigger haven of controversy within videogames with tragedies such as the Virginia Tech shootings being linked to videogames and Columbine,
An Unreal Tournament fan also made a mock up of his school as a map in the game, once again causing controversy.

Some games that use schools, however, do not use the negative aspect, but refer to the social life of students. Most of these games are also based on TV shows and movies that have a positive attitude.
