I was pretty disappointed by the box office performance of the Scott Pilgrim movie. I also hate complaining when my favorite movies or shows get canceled, so I decided to try and do something this time and get the word out about the movie's performance. I started a Scott Pilgrim vs The Box Office contest to try and rally people behind #SaveScottPilgrim so that it can stay in theaters and hopefully we can get more movies like it. My goal is to get 400 people to tweet about the contest or join the Facebook page. If that happens, I'm going to give away a copy of the game.

FaceBook error. :(

#3 Edited by JDevL (51 posts) -

Hmm, I only get the error when I'm not logged into Facebook. But still that's annoying. Facebook hates Scott Pilgrim apparently, too. That or they don't have any Top Men.

@jdevl:  all im gonna say is this :

When i heard how nerdy and quirky and stylish the movie was, it was a day 1 must-see for me.
When i learned that Michael Cera was starring in it, i crossed my fingers on both hands and wished the movie bombs.

Im no particular hater, but that actor is the definition of overrated, and he doesnt deserve the success he has.

No Scott Pilgrim for me. nobody told the director to use that gimp as the movie's star

Everyone not watching the movie because of  Michael Cera is narrow minded however the DVD sales will revive the movie.

Michael Cera haters are entertaining... And the movie was awesome. I joined your group!

#8 Posted by JDevL (51 posts) -

Supporting Edgar Wright trumps hurting Michael Cera, but I agree Cera needs to be taken down a few notches.

Thanks for joining the group.

How is that narrow minded?

That's like calling someone narrow minded because you told them about this really good Chinese restaurant but they decided not to go there because they don't like Chinese food.

That was a badly worded comment that I wrote but saying the movie sucks/ will suck because of him pisses me off.

well your example is shitty cause cera isn't in this movie all the time
a better example would be you refuse to go to a mates party cause one of the types of drink they are drinking is a type you hate

In your example, someone could just avoid drinking the type of drink that they hate.

Are you telling me that Scott Pilgrim would still be a good movie if someone closed their eyes and ears every time Michael Cera was on screen?
#13 Posted by SethPhotopoulos (5263 posts) -

I am not liking where this thread will lead.

A fight between Michael Cera haters and apologists.

#14 Posted by tallTuck94 (553 posts) -
@ajamafalous: no i'm saying that you can still have fun if you just watch the movie for what it is and not focus on cera, if you hate him to the point where it will ruin a movie viewing for you then thats just kinda childish and you just need the grow up and stop whinging

Any discussion outside the game leads to a lot of heated words.

I like Mr. Wright, so I might click your button.

I don't like Michael Cera all that much and I enjoyed the movie.

I thought the movie was good despite Michael Cera. That awkward nerdy thing is pretty old now.

Of course I think most actors don't really act any how. You just see them play themselves for the most part.

I read your post wrong.

I don't see why many people hate him.

I guess it's his face or something but I feel like the haters are going to say they hated/not gonna watch the movie/this movie sucks because of Michael Cera while the guys that like the movie or Cera will fight them and that never turns out well.

However I know there are people that hate him but love the movie.

DVD sales will probably still be weak, it's marketed towards the Download Generation.

It's not his face. It's just that he's type-casted to do the same damn thing over and over again. Seeing the same dog gamned actor doing the same dog gamned thing over and over again gets tiresome.

It's like he's not Scott Pilgrim, he's just Michael Cera but people call him Scott Pilgrim for some reason.

To be fair that fat guy that seems to be popping up in every comedy movie after The Hangover is starting to get grating too.

Type casting always kills actors.

Zach Galifinakas (I think I spelled it right.)

Was very different in his standup which does bother me when he plays the idiot in every movie.

Although the one where he's in an insane asylum makes him more like a mentor than a man-child.

Oh, wow...I didn't realize there was such a anti/pro-Cera War going on out there. I liked the kid in Arrested Development, Juno, and Superbad, but he was pretty terrible here in Scott Pilgrim. Maybe I would've felt differently if I haven't read the comics, but he just didn't fit the role. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, on the other hand, was perfect. as Ramona.

Overall, I'm not surprised the movie didn't do too well. It's very much a niche movie...and not particularly a great one at that.

#30 Posted by RockinKemosabe (619 posts) -

I just really just Edgar Wright to succeed rather than the film. Don't get me wrong, the film is good but Wright is the star of the movie.

im gonna go see the movie tonight.

Me and 6 mates from uni are planning on going to see it on opening night here in the UK (wednesday).

#34 Posted by BadNews (508 posts) -
@ajamafalous: Funny thing is I think the movie would have been great if not incoherent if you just chopped off all the micheal cera parts. All the actors in the movie, including Cera, did amazing. And I hate Cera
#35 Posted by SuperfluousMoniker (2908 posts) -

I'd participate if I had a Twitter account. The movie wasn't the greatest but it deserved to do way better than it did.

Your argument is rendered invalid.

Congratulations, you don't even know what Hipster means.

For the record, it is someone who appropriates a culture they don't understand in hopes of making themselves look cooler to other people who don't understand it.

Scott Pilgrim is a movie about a comic written by a guy who lived in a basement and played NES during his childhood.

The movie is directed by a guy who has been wanting to shoot it for years because he is a fan of the comic.

By not seeing this movie you are pretty much fucking over your own people.

That's not what good old Wikipedia says.
What you are describing sounds more like a "poseur".

And the deifinition of "hipster" that Wiki puts forth fits quite well with Boogies statement.
Except for you know.. the "dying" part, that didn't seem to be there.
#38 Posted by Gregomasta (1541 posts) -
@LordXavierBritish:  I'll torrent it and see how "wrong" I was when it gets dvd ripped(I got no fucking respect for mtv generation, hipster asshoes, shallow fucks, dumb whores).  Until then, LONG LIVE THE "EXPENDABLES"!  WHERE MEN ARE MEN!
#39 Posted by tunaburn (1891 posts) -

well the movie didnt do amazing but it did ok. i actually thought the movie was not great. i liked that they took risks and made a different kind of movie. but it draaaaaagggged on and on and on and i was actually yawning towards the end. WHICH I NEVER DO! i love movies. i think they needed to make this an hour and a half instead of 2 hours and it would of been much better.  also i looked up the girl that played ramona flowers and was disappointed :( i really liked her in the movie and now i am stuck liking a fictional character because the actress herself is nothing like her. (in terms of appearance)

I am in favor of this. I loved the Movie and think it deserves better.

Urgh... No thank you.
#42 Posted by Magicallystoopid (467 posts) -

Me personally I absolutely adored this film, then again I try not to hate everything for some silly reason like I think it'd make me cool or something.

Seriously this movie is doing so bad Edgar Wright is probably going to have to beg the studios to even get another movie, and it's all on the shoulder of people who have silly, petty reasons to not want to go see it.

A great director's career might not survive.  Congratulations world, you probably don't deserve his work anyway.

#43 Posted by UnsolvedParadox (1863 posts) -

Unfortunately, I think its time to shine will be on home release (and largely amongst Canadians like myself). Already seen it twice in the theatre, I'll keep supporting it!

#44 Posted by jkz (4027 posts) -

*Ehem*

I didn't watch the movie because I'm not in the mood for another fun, mindless romp. I'll probably rent it on DVD again, but I simply don't care enough to go see it.

#45 Posted by flufflogic (289 posts) -

I'm interested to see how it does opening weekend here in the UK; I get the feeling it'll do really well.

#46 Posted by Mysterysheep (358 posts) -

The screening of it I went to see here in Ireland was packed. It was difficult to get a good seat.

#47 Posted by JoeyIA (662 posts) -

I think the movie will have legs when it hits DVD.  Lots of movies, like Boondock Saints, do awful in theaters and have great video sales.

#48 Posted by applet0n (653 posts) -

I'd love to join, but I don't live in America, and Scott Pilgrim isn't coming to where I live until November. So, fuck that.

#49 Posted by LordXavierBritish (6320 posts) -

So hey get this I just checked and Scott Pilgrim hasn't made it into the top 10 pirated movies for the past three weeks, or at all.

Maybe it does have a life for it on DVD.

This is what happens when you do good by the nerd audience.

I'm totally in lesbians with the Scott Pilgrim movie. So this is fine by me.
