Mark Pincus & Gabe Newell: Gaming's first billionaires ?

#1 Posted by Spacetrucking (942 posts) -

This Forbes article certainly suggests so. Zynga's valuation is between $4-6 billion (that's almost approaching Electronic Arts- ERTS), Valve's is between $2-4 billion and Gabe owns more than half the shares. Unless I missed someone, these two are probably going to be the first billionaires through video games. It is kind of ironic now how their products (Steam, Farmville) were largely dismissed by players on launch.

Farmville is still dismissed. Just because it makes money doesn't mean it's good.

One of these people deserves his success, and it is not the guy making farmville. Congrats Newell

I can respect Gabe Newell. He earns his money legitimately through sales and updating older titles. Zynga on the other hand... damn. They fuck with people. "What? You want to farm this faster or build this city quicker? Spend your real money on our fake money then". I just can't respect them.

There is a big difference between having a company valued at over a a billion dollars, and having a billion dollars.

I am amused by your chosen forum for this thread. That is all.

@Kjellm87:  VGCatz for life!

And it blows my mind how they still have not even mentioned Episode 3 in years. At this point, I don't even think Valve is working on it. It's just in a closet somewhere behind the TF2 merch stored on 4000 floppy disks.

With valve they might be paper billionaires.  They would have to sell up though.  Guess they will have to settle for being multi-millionaires.

Or, don't forget: Spam your friends to work on your farm faster or to get that stupid rare animal you've been searching for!

Farmville is not allowed in my house.
