Scythe

Overview

The scythe is a long-handled farming tool with a long, curved blade used for harvesting crops or mowing grass.  For farming purposes, the blade is set perpendicular to the shaft, but it can be modified for use as a weapon by turning the blade parallel to the shaft.

According to tradition, the scythe has been used by the Greek titan Cronus, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the Grim Reaper.

Notable Uses

In Grim Fandango, Manny Calavera uses a scythe with a foldable handle and a retractable blade.  His scythe is used for harvesting new souls, puzzle solving, and a scythe duel.  Manny says he likes to keep his scythe next to where his heart used to be.

Magus from Chrono Trigger also uses a scythe as his main tool of destruction. Rather than make an impact on gaming, it instead adds significance to the character who Magus actually is. In fact, at one point of the game he even quotes death to make it sound like he is the cause of it:
