Let the cavalcade of announcements timed with the Game Developers Conference commence! Croteam and Devolver Digital are first out of the gate this morning with Serious Sam 3: BFE, the next installment in what's probably the last first-person shooter franchise at this point with no sort of cover system.  
 

• Frantic Arcade-Style Action – The calling card of the Serious Sam series, hold down the trigger and lay waste to a never-ending onslaught of attackers or face being overrun by Mental’s savage beasts. No cover systems, no camping – it’s just you and them. All of them. 
• Mental’s Fearsome Legions – A new battalion of unforgettable minions including the rumbling Scrapjack and towering Khnum join the legendary Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar and Sirian Werebull. Your days of mowing down zombie Nazi space pirates are over.
• Serious Melee Attacks – When an enemy slips by your wall of lead and pain, use one of the all-new innovative melee moves to drop an enemy right where they stand in the most violent way possible.
• Pure Multiplayer Mayhem – Play through the full campaign mode with up to 16 players or drop the gauntlet and let the heavy ordinance fly in versus modes like Deathmatch and Beast Hunt. This is the next level of Serious Sam multiplayer and all hell is about to break loose.

Serious Sam HD remakes sold me on the engine but the 16 player Co-Op sold me on the game. 4-Player Co-Op on Serious was some of the funnest times I've had playing games.

Man, fuck DNF. This is where it's at.

Croteam are seriously underrated, can't wait to see more.

It will be fun playing another Serious Sam after those HD remakes.

At first I was worried about this coming out so soon after Bulletstorm and Duke Forever, but Serious Sam is so frantic, fast, and fucking ridiculous in a way unlike the other two, it should do fine standing out on it's own.

Actually since it's a prequel "BFE" probably stands for "Before First Encounter."

If this thing comes out in the summer my wife is totally getting the tit job she’s been asking for." [...] When asked for further comment, Fork replied, “Bam. Tit job.”

Great! Now all we need is some sort of Duke crossover, maybe a cameo in the game, and then Sam can get a cameo in Duke Nukem Forever 2. 
 
And then we get the teamup: Duke Nukem vs Serious Sam: Bigger, better more badass or something.

Yes! Thank goodness. I was getting really sick of shooter's getting all serious and realistic. Does this mean we'll see another Unreal Tournament in 2012? ;)

The realistic style looks great and 16 player co op sounds like maddness.

I eagerly await the announcement of the next-gen Hexen game.

I do hope they've learned how to make guns actually feel powerful now.  The SS games are great but so many of the guns just sucked so much, no weight, no recoil, tiny muzzle flashes, bad particle effects.  If all I'm going to be doing is mowing down hordes I need good guns and the guns of this new game will be what sells me, not "LOOK AT OUR GWAFEEEKS!!!"
