I think modern society has a wrong perception on the human body generally.""AndrewGaspar said:Uh, because unless you're gay, you'll probably find some sort of attraction to a naked women's body on screen. The last thing they need is to give a bunch of horny twelve year old boners. -.-"Gizmo said:No, I mean, classification wise, why does nakedness neccesarily make something adult rated?""This is all retarded and basically stems from thousands of years of Christian rulers, there is nothing about the human body that is "rude", everybody has a body, why is it seen like some crazy disgusting object. Here's the real question: Would you want to go into a movie and see some naked DUDE on screen? You know, he has all of his glory hanging out for the world to see and everything. I know I wouldn't."
So ... wanna come back to my place? OFFICIAL SEX IN GAMES THREAD
"And what do they want? The same thing the audience for any new medium always wants: they want pornography, broadly defined. They want to see things they aren’t supposed to see. This is why video games, in general (and away from the world of Miyamoto-san) are so preoccupied with violence – it’s what young men want to see. (Pornography in the sexual sense is less of an issue: they can get that from the internet, any time they want.) Their rule-bound, target-bound educations and work lives leave them with a deep craving to go and commit imaginary crimes – as well they might. Not all games are cynically, affectlessly violent, but a lot of them are, and this trend is holding video games back. It’s keeping them at the level of Hollywood blockbusters, when they could go on to be something else and something more."Quote from this excellent writeup.
I'm not sure where sex in video games can be presented in a way, where it isnt just there for the sake of looking at boobies. Mass effect was fine tho i guess, if not a little awkward due to the personal nature of the protaginist in relation to the player.
I would mostly hope for games to be above this, going forward. I guess as long as the target audience is pubescent Males, it's hard to take any representation of sex, without looking at it as awkward and juvenile (especially due to its taboo nature in america). Only in the developing of characters or plot, could it be done tastefully. I think generally its been left alone by developers thus far due to this fear.
The focus of most video games seem to be voilence over romance even more so than in other forms of media (movies, books), in a lot of ways representing whats socially acceptable as media in America.
"Ok, better example, in Titanic, the scene where she is naked and getting painted, that was rated changed from a 12 to a 15, I mean that scene was only about 3 seconds long!"Gizmo said:

I'd have no problem with that, no. Dunno bout you, but...Me like sex.
As to AIDS? Your being silly, don't you think? Do you think people do not regularly have casual sex? Better to educate people about safer sex practices than to promote ignorance.

"Weltal said:are they homos? i wouldn't be surprised. they got that big serial killers in prison who are gay now vibe"I have no problem with it. I still can't help but find it weird that games allow you to chainsaw people, run them down, and other wise maim them a pair of breasts is over the line. *shrug*"In Gears the guys do not care for breasts."
"Fallout 3 doesn't even have sexual content. More like.... sexual references.Get this:
"
My dad has only one real restriction when I buy games, sexual content= you cannot buy it.
But if it is violent as all hell, it's fine. I mean come on, where is the sense in this. I own Dead Space, but most likely my dad would not let me buy something like Fallout 3 or Bioshock due to the label mentioning sexual content, even if the game is not focused on the subject.
*facepalm*
