Part of me just died
This is one game I have heard many great things about and haven't played, but I know what you meen when something should just be left alone, hopefully something good turns out from this and maybe it won't be turned into a movie ; O
Great news. I can't wait for them to adapt Pong next.
Oh ffs - Responsible for The scorpion king and legend of chun li
Ugh. I'm with you. Shadow of the Colossus should never be made into a movie, especially not by them.
This phrase maybe over used but if that came up right before the movie started it would be "Epic Fail""From the makers of 'The Scorpion King' and 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li', comes....Shadow of the Colossus.""
"No planned release date for the film, but hopefully we'll all be dead from a nuclear holocaust or black plague by that point."
Well said, Kotaku.
You know what?
i know i normally hunt zombies but i think i will make and exception for everyone involved in making of this film...
Bog! You need to shoot me in the head! And I'll shoot you in the head! That way, we'll both be dead!
"Bog! You need to shoot me in the head! And I'll shoot you in the head! That way, we'll both be dead!"for the tidy sum of 5 dollars i will shoot you both in the head
"You know what?Dude. The Legend of Chun-Li. CHUN-LI. Also, producers are a bad example. I need some faith in the writer and director. Producers are usually just in it for the profit. The creative vision, most of the time, is that of the director. The same guy that starred as Dr. Moreau in The Island of Dr. Moreau......also played Vito Corleone in The Godfather. The same producer that made produced Hudson Hawk, Cradle 2 Tha Grave, and Speed Racer......also produced Die Hard, Predator, and The Matrix. The same guy that produced Deep Impact and The Flintstones......also directed Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.See where I'm going with this?I'm willing to give the movie a chance if they are willing to try for quality."

The director's job is to block the scene, rehearse the scenes, and shoot the scenes. Hell, the DP has more control over the general LOOK of a film than the director does. Guys like Joel Silver, Arnon Milchan, and Frank Marshall get far more respect from me than most directors...as without them and the level of confidence they have in a piece of work, you wouldn't get most of the amazing movies we've seen."You know what?Dude. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit."From the makers of 'The Scorpion King' and 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li', comes....Shadow of the Colossus."
Shadow of the colossal turd.... boom!
The gameplay is core to the experience in sotc, as well as being able to slow down, explore and take in the scenery and atmosphere. It's so rare in games to use the medium so effectively. It will never translate completely into film. This is sacrilege.
Ueda needs to elbow drop sony pictures HQ.
Look on the bright side, at least it's gonna introduce more people to the game. And if there's any game worthy of more attention it's Shadow of the Colossus.
Hopefully it's animated. Hand-drawn. That's the only way I can see this being anything more than a monumental fuck up.
I'd understand if they turned it into an anime type movie, akin to Princess Mononoke and Akira. That could actually be good. But no, they had to give the greatest game of all time a Hollywood adaptation.
Remember the deep story in the game? I mean come on, it's full of narrative. There was the beginning....and then you fought a lot of big things...and then the thing with the horse....and then the fight with the bigger thing...and then the end. BEST STORY OF ANYTHING EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVERYTHING!!!
BoG, the good news is it doesn't mean it'll actually happen. I've seen reports of Crazy Taxi and Pac-Man being made into movies, and those never happened...
However, in the case of Shadow of the Colossus... I think it has a greater chance of actually happening. For a moment I stopped and thought about how cool the Colossi might look in a movie, then I suddenly realized how horrible and disgraceful of a movie it would turn out to be. Let's hope it doesn't happen.
Jeez, I've never played SotC...but I know what it's all about, and you're right...it's not meant for the theater. I bet movie studios are just shopping around for games that look like they could be adapted well into movies, because that seems to be big now...that and comic book/graphic novel movies. Just because you can do it doesn't mean it's a good idea. And of all the games to choose, why this one? I'm sure it's a great game...I've always wanted to play it, but it just seems like a strange choice, it's a fairly obscure title. it's weird that they're making this, yet so far I've heard nothing about a Gears of War movie...and that Halo movie really hasn't materialized into anything. Not that I want a Gears or Halo movie, but those are probably the best-known games because they're known even outside the gaming world. I thought the King of Fighters movie was a weird idea, but this is even stranger.

It's pretty much a fairy tale with an awesome setting and no real words.
"Shadow said:I could not disagree more. The game was beautiful, clever, and overall fantastic. However, the story was stupid, and extremely contrived to the extent that they were just looking for anything they could to justify killing all these big ass things in an otherwise empty wasteland. You come into the place with a girl and are then proceed to ignore her completely until the last 10 minutes of the game. And then at the end they decided: "Alright, how do we end this? Okay lets tie this into Ico somehow." People see the artful setting and minimalistic story, and come to think of it as amazing. When that thing with the horse happened (no spoilers), I couldn't care less other than thinking "oh well then I guess this is the last Colossus." I love the hell out of this game and still play through it every now and then. But the story is practically nonexistant and fans who like the game's arty....ness are tricking themselves into thinking the story was any good at all. Sorry, but I gotta be harsh on this one."Remember the deep story in the game? I mean come on, it's full of narrative. "Red said:You didn't care for Agro? Agro was your only real ally in this. He was there through thick and thin. When a colossi was charging at you, he was just an "X" button away. He was your bro. He was your only friend. When the thing happened, I nearly cried. Horse or no horse, the game made me care. I liked the ending, it was kinda confusing, but I liked it. When Agro...did a thing...in the ending, that just took it. I cried."Shadow said:I could not disagree more. The game was beautiful, clever, and overall fantastic. While it's definitely a travesty that Sony let them make this film I think people should realise that the film shouldn't any way taint your memory of the game. That's like saying you don't like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat as much because of their crappy movies.
The worst thing would be if people don't go and play the game because of the movie, now that would just be awful.
