Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits have never been truly explained, although one can speculate as what their purpose had been. It is clear, however, that they were designed to create creatures, likely to do Shang Tsung's bidding. The only known characters ever to emerge from the pits to fight in Mortal Kombat were Meat, Mileena and Skarlet

Mileena

A twisted creature created by Shang Tsung, Mileena possesses a fragile mind and a ferocious bite. When not devouring the flesh of her enemies, she dreams of murdering her twin "sister" Kitana so that she may usurp her as Princess of Edenia.
Shang Tsung

One of the main antagonists in the Mortal Kombat series, Shang Tsung is a dastardly sorcerer and subordinate to Shao Kahn. Infamous as a copycat.
Skarlet

One of Shao Kahn's loyal servants in the Mortal Kombat series, specializing in blood-based magic. She was originally a rumored palette-swap back in Mortal Kombat II, decades before her official appearance.
