Anyone picking up Persona 3 FES...

#1 Posted by clumsyninja1 (817 posts) -

I played P3 but never finished and never tried FES either. Has anyone played it before? Should I try the main game (the journey) and then the answer (the expansion with Aegis) or the other way around...

Go for it. Playing it right now! So much fun. Still sucks that I watched an LP about this game and know how the story goes. Still, I'm loving it. For 10 bucks it's a steal!

I am having my little brother download and install it now so I can play when I get home. I am waiting to get a Vita till either the price drops or they release a new model, and I will probably get P3P and P4:Golden for that.

Play The Journey first, then start The Answer and see if you like it. If not, it might be a good idea to just watch a Let's Play for it.

#5 Posted by Linkster7 (1043 posts) -

So what you people haven't got a PS2 hooked up exclusively for P3 and P4? Well your loss.

@clumsyninja1: You should play the Journey first, not certain but I think the answer will spoil some things. Also I've heard The Answer isn't that good,

#6 Posted by clumsyninja1 (817 posts) -

I though this one let you choose male or female, but I guess that the PSP, right?

#7 Posted by IAmNotBatman (658 posts) -

The Answer is set a little while after the events of The Journey so don't play that first, it would spoil some plot points aswell if you did so. I personally already own this on disk and definitely got my money's worth although, I completed The Journey I couldn't bring myself 'round to carry on playing to finish the expansion. I think I got burned out on it; it's a looooooooong game!

Can't fuck Ken.

Inferior version.

Yup. Its bought and installed. I think I'll wait a little bit until I start to play though. I wanna keep focused on trying to get platnium trophies for all the DMC HD games.

Yeah, but don't think that you're missing out. The PSP version doesn't even let you walk around areas, it's kinda messed up, FES is still the ultimate and best way to play P3 in my opinion. It's a fantastic game. Definitely play Journey first, then Answer, the Answer isn't so great but if you really can't get enough of P3 then it's worth a play.

#11 Posted by LordAndrew (14430 posts) -

I still haven't opened my PS2 copy.

#12 Posted by clumsyninja1 (817 posts) -

Hope they put Persona 4 on the PSN...Plus Persona The Arena is coming this summer.

#13 Posted by eroticfishcake (7787 posts) -

Play the Journey. Skip The Answer altogether since it kinda messes up the characters but if you're curious just YouTube the cutscenes since they only form a small part of The Answer.

It's great that they've released it on PS3 since it's a truly unique JRPG but I won't be buying it since I have P3: FES and P3P which I've played at least six times altogether...

#14 Posted by StrainedEyes (1330 posts) -

Yup, installed a played a bit of it. My only Persona experience is the Endurance Run, so it's cool to finally play one. Bummed that you can't directly control your team, though.

I got about 4-5 hours from the end when my PS3 YLOD and I had to send it in to get fixed. When I got it back I lost my memory card with my save. Don't have the patience to play back through it though. Didn't really care for the story/characters myself.

I sure hope we Euroes get this and not 'Barbie Little Mermaid Crabaction' or something equally as terrible this week.

Dang I just got out of playing P3:FES in its entirety not too long ago. I love it to death but it's a little too soon for me. Maybe I'll pick it up sometime in the distant future.

#18 Posted by Pixelationist (42 posts) -

Despite not being able to walk around I still think P3P is the best version, the fast travel makes it so much snappier, and being able to control everyone in battle is nothing short of a god send.

I also think the Persona format is just very well suited to a hand held, playing in short burst is much more enjoyable for me.

You could get with Ken in the PSP version?

Ten bucks! It's such a crazy value, I bought it again just to have it on my PS3. I assumed it would be $30 or something.

Annoyingly though, I have an old-ass HDTV that only does 1080i, but this game thinks 720p is close enough. Apparently this is an issue with all the PS2 Classics. I have to go into the display settings and set it to 480p whenever I want to play, whereas PS3 games will do it automatically. Seems like an easy issue to fix, but because of how rare it probably is, I'm not sure they will.

How does one go about "picking up" a game that is not physical but rather data that is stored on a hard disk drive?

Iv owned Fes since 2008 and love it still. I have 4 save files with 100+ hours on each. Play "the journey" then the answer afterwards as the answer is technically afterwards. Also, I am giving the OP a big ole Middle finger as now i just bought another game that I already own thx to ps3 not having backwards anymore. Would have been happy never knowing this was on PSN

But... the dude is 11 years old. Would he even know where to put it?

I just started it today. I had never played it and it's fucking awesome. Shit starts right off the fucking bat! It's crazy!

#27 Posted by HadesTimes (827 posts) -

Already downloading it.

#28 Posted by ArbitraryWater (12006 posts) -

Already have it on my PS2, not to mention the copy of P3P that I got when my friend gave me his PSP. Ehhh. I'm loving the direct control and the female social links, but there is a certain level of atmosphere that is... lost in transition. Whatever. For $10, Persona 3 FES is an incredible deal.

#29 Posted by M_Shini (551 posts) -

I have a ps2 copy of FES , which was pretty much the only reason my PS2 saw any light of day, although i didn't finish it and bought P3P when the vita came out which has been more convenientt to play with the fast travel menu and how the floors work.

#30 Posted by rawrsair (821 posts) -

I'm playing it at the moment, or I was but then I got flu so I'm having a break.

Hey, I love me some of Barbie's Crab Action.

Create a US account, purchase a US PSN card from sites such as cheapxboxlivecodes.com and I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get it like that.

#32 Posted by stubbleman (306 posts) -

@James_Giant_Peach: So having new encounters, improved combat, a bigger soundtrack and several brand new social links is inferior to being able to run around in town?

...Alright man, whatever.

#33 Posted by ApeGantz (217 posts) -

Please play it in that order good sir.

And I'd have to agree that P3P is the better version even with what they took out. Gotta love that improves combat system and different Social links!

#34 Posted by PenguinDust (12604 posts) -

I have a PS2 disc version already. I toyed with the idea since I currently am without a PS2 (my b/c PS3 broke this past Christmas), but if I am going to pay for another version of what is absolutely one of my all-time favorite games, I'd like some new content, so I'll probably pick up P3P when I eventually get a Vita. It doesn't have The Answer but my real interest lies in playing the female-protagonist plot line.

#35 Posted by Sergio (2202 posts) -

I have P3P on my Vita and own the PS2 version, both unplayed, but I'm still considering getting this so I don't have to play on the old tube set in the bedroom.

I've played one hour so far and feel like I'm cheating on Persona 4.

#37 Posted by Addfwyn (1945 posts) -

I was tempted to, but I can't buy Persona 3 again. I own the original, the original disc-based FES, AND Persona 3 Portable. Buying the same game four times is something I just can't really do.

I'd recommend it though, it's a fantastic game.

#38 Posted by scarace360 (4828 posts) -

I bought it havent played it yet with all this skullgirls.

#39 Posted by ToxicFruit (1718 posts) -

I am buying it again, will be nice to be able to play it without hooking my ps2 up again

#40 Posted by AzureFlame (17 posts) -

I owned the first version but wanted to play the update so for sure going to buy it.

#41 Posted by RyanMatthew (21 posts) -

Downloaded it last night. Hopefully this weekend I'll get around to playing it.
