Persona 3 Portable is $10 on PSN. Should I get it?

P3P is on sale for $10 on PSN. Should I get it or am I better off just waiting for Persona 4 The Golden? I have never played a Persona game before but the Endurance run has made me interested. I have a Vita.

You really can't go wrong with 10$. That is a crazy good value for the game, and P3P is a great place to start.

It's not quite as good as P4, but it's really close. No reason to not play both.

yes. yes you should.

I agree, it's fantastic. I do personally still like P4 better but P3 is still one of my all time favs.

Go for it, Persona 3 is awesome and the PSP version fixes my main problem with the game. That being the inability to control your party members.

Persona 3 Portable is the only Persona game I've played and it was one of the best games I have ever played. $10 is an amazing price for that game.

#7 Posted by DonutFever (3551 posts) -

Yes. Golden will be better, but they're both amazing.

#8 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19355 posts) -

FES is better, but yes, you should get P3P for $10. It is a great game and if you want to play Persona 4, I don't see why one wouldn't want to play P3P, at least to experience it.

#9 Posted by Red (5995 posts) -

Flip, that's a pretty good deal. I'll buy it right now.

#10 Posted by AcidBrandon18 (753 posts) -

You guys are right. I'm going to get it.

#11 Posted by eroticfishcake (7786 posts) -

Buy it lest I shit on your dreams.

In all seriousness it's a very good JRPG that's quite different from the usual fantasy affair. It's not a perfect game by any means but it ranks as one of my personal favourites in a long time.

For sure. Great price for a great game.

Yeah, this was a big deal for me since I played P4 before P3; I probably would have been super frustrated otherwise.
#13 Posted by Jeust (10680 posts) -

I like it a lot too. Personally I found it better than Persona 4.

#14 Posted by EthanML (455 posts) -

Yes. God yes.

#15 Posted by Levius (1143 posts) -

Yes you should, I'm playing through it now and it's really good. Also look at Persona 2: Innocent Sin if you want a more traditional JRPG.

I just saw it was on sale and thought about picking it up to.

You'll never know who those characters are in Persona 4 :Arena unless you get it.

I should probably buy it too. But Persona without Jeff and Vinny providing commentary just won't be the same.

If you have a PS3, I'd say that you should definitely get FES off of that store. It's also 10 bucks and unfortunately, P3P is pretty stripped down. If a PSP is the only you can experience that game, then you should absolutely do it. P3 is my favourite game of all time.

#20 Posted by jebara (64 posts) -

I normally suggest FES edition for PS3 off playstation 2 classics but P3P is great as well.

P3P has full party controls but cutscenes and characters interacting will just be pictures, which is why I prefer FES, Persona 3's cutscenes are just incredible.

FES is also at the same price too.

But its still a great game so go for it.

Note:if you do get FES, make multiple save files, there is a memory bug in the game but that normally fixes it.

Just bought it, thanks for the heads up.

One of my all time favorite games for $10 !!! Of course its worth it silly . It may not be the pure P3 experience but I played it first on the PSP, and I fucking love that game.

I thought P3P also had the FES content. And new P3P content. Is that incorrect?

#24 Posted by Sploder (917 posts) -

Persona 3 is a fantastic game, you should definitely get it.

That is incorrect. P3P does not have "The Answer" part of FES and it is in the style of a visual novel throughout the whole game, which removes a significant amount of the presentation that people came to appreciate in the original game. There is a reason most preferred FES to P3P and that Atlus acknowledged they disliked the change and were happy the Vita came along for Persona 4 Golden.

#26 Posted by SuperWristBands (2266 posts) -

I know you already decided but YES! GET IT! That game is worth way more than $10.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason P3P does NOT have the FES content. The female protagonist is a pretty cool addition through, if that interests anyone inquiring about the game.

Persona 3 and 4 are must plays, get it bought and you can complete it before P4G releases!

#29 Posted by WrightTime (7 posts) -

You should definitely get it. It's one of the best JRPGs in years.

And if you can get FES cheap later, you should.

#30 Posted by killacam (1284 posts) -

how many hours can i assume this gaaame is? (FES version..)

#31 Posted by WrightTime (7 posts) -

The main game can be around 70-100 hours depending on how much you rush.

#32 Posted by Sergio (2131 posts) -

I'd say get both FES and PSP. Play male protagonist on FES and female on PSP. At least that's what I plan on doing.

This is a good plan, if one has the time and money to do so. I played through FES so I'll be happy to play as the female in P3P, but it wouldn't be the way I'd advise to experience the game the first time.

P3 FES is what got me on the Atlys train. Choo-choo my friend, choo-choo.

#35 Edited by Marz (5655 posts) -

just a question to those who have these games already, what bout persona 1 and 2 on the PSP. Worth getting if i never played them before? Thinking of just buying all 3 PSP games from the sale.

#36 Posted by WrightTime (7 posts) -

@Marz: Persona 1 is... kind of bad. The battle system is an unpleasant mess, and that's made worse by the encounter rate being through the roof. The story and characters don't redeem the game, either. It's only worth getting to see how far the series has come, in my opinion.

Persona 2 Innocent Sin is better, but it still doesn't have a lot of the features that made Persona 3 and its successors so popular. I don't know how much it costs, but I'd say it's worth it if it's under $10.

#37 Posted by Cerogravian (344 posts) -

@Marz: One more vote to ignore the first Persona, but you reeeally should should check out Innocent Sin (and Eternal Punishment, thought I heard it was on the way to the PSPs/PSVs as well?). It is an older game, and the focus is a bit different, but the good stuff in 3 & 4 would not be possible without the two 2:s. I think the gameplay still holds up, but most importantly the characters, story and world are just beyond greatness.

On a more bitter note for the rest of the thread: I really hate North American exclusiveness that gets my hopes up...

Yeah dude its a damn good remake, you don't see deals like these very often on consoles either.
