It seems they added an NPC in Escapade that, for some strange reason, get's a portrait on the last days you can go around doing stuff in the city (3/3 and 3/4, I believe) and one of things he says is highlighted in red text. This is from some guy at another forum, but I thought it'd be cool to share:

I've heard people guessing that he's going to be a character in P5, or another Atlus game.

Oh yeah that dude. I haven't talked to him much nor did I get the chance to see his portrait but he's definitely more interactable then your average NPC. I'm not entirely sure why he's there. I dunno, he's quite intriguing though I'll give him that.

Man, I was really hoping that was just a long setup and when you posted the picture it'd be Adachi or something.

Interesting, truly.  Kind of reminds me of a younger version of this guy from Trauma Team:

Gabriel Cunningham, the character I posted from Trauma Team developed by Atlus, also has a son and a failing marriage.  Kind of links with the "Man Drinking Alone's" possible story.

I should probably get P3P. That'd be pretty cool if he did have something to do with the next Persona game. Maybe he's actually a primary character after the events of the game, i.e. he knocks up his girlfriend and cheats on her during the game.

Apparently, dude's called Vincent (from GameFaqs, copied from NeoGAF):

    No Caption Provided

      User Yawee from NeoGAF thread:

" That Vincent talks about dreams so much might give a hint that P5 is going to have something to do with dreams and dream psychology. "

I think that this is very likely.  In Persona 3 FES, the main addition of the expansion—The Answer—furtively introduced the concept of "Shadows being your true selves in another physical body that disappears once you learn to accept how you really are" with Aigis and Metis.  That concept was obviously one of the main points in Persona 4.  If they would follow that type of path, this could be a hint for the type of story Persona 5 will tell.

Have they given what year Trauma Team takes place?  Keep in mind that P3P released in Japan last fall while Trauma Team was just released there last month so it would make sense for Atlus to stick him in there.

As someone said on GameSpot: (Nexus_Nocturnal)

The red text is "nothing to do with your problems."

He says this after asking if the dreams he has been having have anything to do with him betraying his girlfriend.

I hope he is the MC in a new MegaTen game. His nightmares he is talking about could be like a dream world. Perhaps that's going to be P5's "Dark Hour" or "TV World".

I really like this idea. Considering how the Persona games are going this wouldn't be a stretch.

@Catolf:   Yeah.  It'd be cool if this character is a preview of what's to come in Persona 5.  I'm eager to see what Atlus actually has in store along those lines.

Same here. It seems this guy know's something that's going on, why else make the text red, it can't be random. So I really REALLY hope it's a Persona 5 tie in or something.

I was thinking Trauma Team reference, but if the dude's name is Vincent, it seems more likely a Persona 5 reference. The nods towards dreams could definitely be a key to the plot of the game.

"Nothing to do with your problems," huh? Wonder if that's just referencing the fact that none of the Persona game stories are really connected in any way, or if it has some deeper hidden meaning?

For the record, guys, you can go through all of his dialogue significantly sooner than the last few days of the game. The only reason most people think that is that the club owner mentions him in passing while you're talking to him about the monk in that end-game phase where you're wrapping up Social Links. However, having finished the game myself, I believe he shows up as early as September and you can go through the entirety of his dialogue in two separate nights that month. He doesn't go on to say anything new in March if you manage to accomplish that and I recall getting his portrait to show up before that.

I think I read somewhere in that main GameFAQs thread that supposedly people had concluded elsewhere the guy was a cameo character from an existing Atlus game based on the scans of the Famitsu preview of P3P. I can't seem to find any evidence that supports that in English or Japanese, though. Based on some searches of Japanese forums I conducted, though, it seems as though people have reached a similar consensus that he probably has something to do with Persona 5, although some people contend he might be Trauma Team's Gabe. I'm more inclined to think it's the former, mostly because Atlus doesn't usually do cross-franchise cameos with its games; the ones I can think of that happen in SMT games are of characters from other existing SMT series to begin with.

If anybody wants me to, though, I can do some digging around in the ISO when I have free time. There probably isn't much else beyond what people already found with stuff like that hex editor, but having gone through Persona 3 and 4's file systems in the past, I do know Atlus has a weird knack for leaving around obscure and unused content in its game discs. Most of the important stuff isn't really all that encrypted and what still is can be handled pretty easily with third party programs, from what I recall.

Though there is a visual similarity between the characters, I doubt that Vincent is supposed to be Gabe.  Otherwise, why would he be referred to as Vincent in the code?  (Though hell, Vincent could be Gabe's middle name, for all we know.)

That and he seems to have a little too much backstory to be our next Charlie.

I imagine he is from Persona 5 though, maybe the main character will be his child in the game or he's an early victim of whatever happens in the falling dream (perhaps it's P5's equivalent of being left in the TV world when the fog clears). "Nothing to do with your problems" probably refers to the fact that he's dealing with a completely different shadow-related problem, note the red Zelda text.

Of course, this is all just speculation.

    @Pepsiman: Well there is Dante

As to Gabe or Vincent, keep in mind P3P was done while they were still putting together Trauma Team.  They could have just chnged the name as some point between putting him in P3P and finalizing Trauma Team.

    There goes my theory.

[EDIT] Actually, not necessarily as it could still have something to do with Persona 5 having to do with "dream worlds", but I didn't know the "shadow self" concept was used in P2:IS.

Persona 2's protagonists were older than the "typical" protagonists.  Maya, the player character Eternal Punishment worked for a magazine.  Before becoming the silent protagonist of Eternal Punishment, she was a character with a voice and personality in Innocent Sin.  Tatsuya was the reverse from Innocent Sin to Eternal Punishment.

So it's not entirely unlikely that Persona 5 could feature a protagonist that is not a high school student.  Even so, there's no guarantee that Vincent would be a protagonist or even a playable character in Persona 5 if he's indeed a member of that game's cast.

Well the plot certainly thickened since I last came here. I'm still not sure what to think about this guy. It does sound P5 related but at the same time it feels a little too soon? Ugh. Come on Atlus, give us something!

Who says the next game will be featured in highschool? it could be a college.

When you sit and think about it, they've done a highschool in for both city kids and kids out int he middle of no where, Which means I think that the next place will be smack dab int he middle, Not a highschool but a college campus where both sides could meet up.

@endaround: Oh yeah, I'm entirely aware it's possible. I just have my doubts because there are still enough lingering differences about this Vincent that remain in the game and Trauma Team's Gabe, having completed both games, on top of the other stuff I mentioned about Atlus being dodgy about cross-franchise cameos. From what I remember based on preview materials coming out of the press about a year ago, Trauma Team's character designs were already finalized well before P3P's Japanese release, too, which would make me wonder why Atlus would hold onto an old design and name for Gabe despite there being an official version out there months before either game's release. There are also a lot of smaller things as well that just make me doubt it's actually Gabe in any capacity, especially considering the game's development cycle was almost certainly so short that they wouldn't have had that much time to work an existing character into that world.

@Hailinel: I guess now that he's all sorts of LEGIT on here, one of us should probably be, like, writing fanfiction or doujinshi about him. It seems like the only proper route to go in really making him feel like a part of the Persona canon.

    @Hailinel:
Man Drinking Alone: The Chronicles of a Lone Alcoholic
    Written by Pepsiman

    Chapter One

Man Drinking Alone wasn't the sort of fellow to enjoy the company of other people whenever he consumed alcohol. Even if he spent his evenings just idly existing at a crowded place like Club Escapade, Man Drinking Alone preferred to at least feel as though he was by himself as he had his drinks of choice. After all, he name really was "Man Drinking Alone" for a reason. It said so right on his birth certificate, in fact.

Man Drinking Alone usually didn't have any real reason to drink alone. He just did to live up to his family line, a tradition rich with people such as Woman Drinking Alone, Underage Minor Drinking Alone, and Crazy Cat Lady Drinking Alone. Man Drinking Alone just typically drank alone because it was habit. It was a part of his day. If he wasn't drinking by himself, something was wrong in life. He even drank alone while he was at work. He even drank alone while on the monorail. He even drank alone while he was asleep. Man Drinking Alone normally did everything in his power to live up to the high expectations one naturally had when they thought of his name.

At least, that was the case up until today.

Today was different. Although Man Drinking Alone was, in fact, a man drinking alone, today was the one day he didn't want to be downing martinis solo. Today just didn't feel right. He wasn't feeling like his usual, Man Drinking Alone-sort of self, so it was natural to expect that today, and only today, he would want a little bit of companionship for once in life. Whoever wanted to take the seat next to him didn't have to become his best friend or anything. They just had to sit there with him long enough for him to be Man Drinking With Company.

Then entered the Woman in Blue.

Man Drinking Alone didn't notice the woman at first, a striking young lass with somewhat pale skin, very lightly colored hair, and yellow irises in her eyes. He wasn't the type to ever turn his head around and see what was happening whenever the entrance to Club Escapade opened, so it wasn't entirely surprising that he didn't spot her immediately. That changed as soon as she took a stool next to him at the bar, giving Man Drinking Alone just the person he needed to be Man Drinking with Company.

The Woman in Blue hailed the bar tender, casually requesting "a margarita on the rocks, if you'd be so kind." The bar tender did as he was told and as he was he handed the Woman in Blue her drink, he was immediately greeted with a purse that endlessly dropped 100 and 500-yen coins. Noticing that the payment process was taking much longer than necessary, Man Drinking Alone darkly chuckled to himself and decided to finally address the beauty.

"You've got an odd way of doing things in an already odd country. You know that?" he asked, not really wanting an answer or a reply all that much one way or the other.

The Woman in Blue decided to take that as her cue that she had paid the bartender sufficiently and started sipping her drinking. "I'm new to the area," she replied succinctly.

"So I noticed," said the man formally known as Man Drinking Alone.

"My employer won't let me install a jungle gym into our workplace," the Woman in Blue elaborated. "The fact he doesn't understand how beneficial it is for the soul, let alone our line of work, just frustrates me. I had to come here to vent some steam. I remembered seeing the place when a new client gave me a tour of this mall, so I figured now was as good a place as any to let loose." She started drinking her margarita in longer intervals before going back up for air.

"We've all got our problems these days, it seems, don't we?" said the Man No Longer Drinking Alone.

"Yeah," the Woman in Blue replied depressingly.

"It looks like we're both going to be here for a while," the Man Now Drinking With Someone concluded after a long moment of silence. "We might as well introduce ourselves."

"Probably," the Woman in Blue agreed.

"I'm Man Drinking Alone. Well, maybe not today. But still."

The Woman in Blue finally let a small smile loose after finishing another sip and with it, the remainder of her drink. "You can call me Elizabeth."

Man Drinking Alone: The Chronicles of a Lone Alcoholic
    Written by Pepsiman

    Chapter Two

"Let me ask you a question, Elizabeth, now that we've come to know each other's names," Man Not Really Drinking By Himself asked.

    "Shoot."

"Are you legal? I mean, can you actually be here legally drinking this stuff with me?" he wondered. "You're a looker, but honestly you don't exactly look at least 20, either. I thought the only minor they let in here was some schoolgirl that assists the monk upstairs or something."

Elizabeth ordered a rum and coke for her second round of drinking before answering. "Where I come from, the body transcends time and space. Looks can be deceiving."

Man Now Drinking with a Companion had to take a moment to figure out a retort of some sort. The aquamarine-dressed Elizabeth was an even more colorfully strange character than he had initially anticipated. Being the manly man that he was, though, he came up with something to say quickly enough. "That's your way of saying you have makeup that makes the years go away, right? My girlfriend is the same way." Classy.

"No, not quite," Elizabeth said, apparently unoffended. "It just comes with the work."

Where's her workplace, then? The fountain of youth? the Man with a Liver-Killing Buddy couldn't help but think to himself. Even for a woman, she sure knows how to dodge those questions.

The bartender promptly came back with Elizabeth's rum and coke, apparently confirming her oblique argument that she could, in fact, legally consume the stuff. It still didn't provide many answers about her, but if nothing else, Han "Who Used to Drink" Solo was relieved to know he at least wouldn't be arrested for getting a minor drunk. He had enough run-ins with that Officer Kurasawa and his threatening fleet of katanas, boxing gloves, and grenade launchers to not want another repeat encounter with the man, if at all possible. He noticed that Elizabeth was about to pay for the drink and, in the process tip the bartender quite handsomely with her bottomless coin purse. He decided to correct her on the proper protocol for those sorts of transactions.

"Rum and coke's 600 yen," the Man Better with Booze than an Entire Frathouse flatly told her.

"Huh? How much is that with these new coins?" Elizabeth was looking genuinely perplexed.

"You really are new to this country, aren't you?" he replied, morbidly intrigued. "Give him the two biggest circular coins you've got in there. One should say '500 yen' and another should say '100.'"

"Oh, is that how it works here?" Elizabeth said with a surprised expression on her face. "My client never did get around to teaching me how to use these things properly when we went out to the shrine a while back." She handed the barkeep the 600 yen, satisfied that the mystery was finally solved.

"Knowing how much you actually have in there, it's probably not really all that much of a problem how much you actually pay for anything. You seem to have plenty of money as it is" the Once Lonely Booze Connoisseur remarked. He immediately noticed after saying that to her that he hadn't touched his beer in quite some time. He had completely forgotten that he had ordered that as well as the martini, the latter of which he had finished while Elizabeth was just fetching her now-comprehensible coins. That was quite a rare thing to have happen, neglecting a drink. He decided to address that problem immediately so that he wouldn't be renamed as Man Getting Sober Alone. Or in this case, Man Getting Sober With Some Chick.

"So tell me," he continued once he finally took another gulp of his precious Kirin, "what exactly does your work entail? It must be quite an odd job if you're even allowed to ask for something like a jungle gym."

"I trade in Personas," Elizabeth stated with a straight face.

    "Come again?"

"You should read up more on your Karl Jung if you don't know what personas are. It's basic psychology."

"It probably doesn't come as much of a surprise to you, but I didn't exactly go to college," the Brash Man of Alcohol said, pointing to himself, as if to indicate his sloppy sense of dress and even messier hair. "I didn't exactly want to keep going to school if it meant just becoming a bloody salaryman like everyone else I knew."

"I see," Elizabeth said. She had gotten through about halfway through her rum and coke, although judging by her face, she didn't exactly like the taste of it.

Silence ensued for a while between the two. It wasn't Man Drinking with Someone Else's way of brushing her off or anything of the sort. He just couldn't think of anything else to say after letting slip that awkward little revelation. Elizabeth, on the other hand, still wanted to keep the conversation going, so she was contemplating what next to say while gazing out at the dance floor. It was a bit empty that evening. She thought she might give it a try in a little while, since she doubted her boss would let her have a dance floor constructed, either.

"All right, I've told you a little bit about myself and what I do. So let's turn the spotlight on you," Elizabeth slyly suggested.

The Kirin Fan with a Companion remained silent. If he didn't outright object, it was typically his way of telling someone to just go on. This seemed to be one of those times.

"What brings you here? Judging by the way the master of this establishment treats you, it looks like you're a regular. But I still think you have your reasons for being here tonight, especially since you're rather old to just be here on a whim." The Man No Longer Getting Inebriated in Isolation was intrigued. Despite her youthful appearance, she could apparently be as blunt as him. That was enough to motivate him to tell the truth.

"First that monk's lady assistant and now you, huh? There seem to be a lot of people interested in my story lately."

Elizabeth was silent. She was waiting to hear what she really wanted.

"Well, if you're as old as you apparently are, then maybe you'll get where I'm coming from," he said, moving on. "I found out a while back that my girlfriend is pregnant."

"That tends to happen when things get frisky, yeah," Elizabeth understood.

"Yeah. The only problem is that I ain't the marrying type, so I've been trying to avoid the problem by cheating on her. A lot. It's getting ridiculous, but it's hard to let go of those impulses you once let drive you as a youth, you know?"

"Should have chewed it over with Twix," Elizabeth retroactively recommended, confidently placing her now-empty rum and coke glass back on the bar, as though to show it she was the boss.

    "Excuse me?"

"American colloquialism I heard a while back from another client," Elizabeth replied, indifferently shrugging.

"Huh. Never heard that one before." The One Half of an Alcoholic Duo took another drink of his Kirin. Much like Elizabeth's rum and coke, it was nearing its end. He was probably going to order another one soon. "Anyway," he proceeded, "I don't have that much time left before the kid's birth. I found out months and months ago, but I still haven't really done anything about it. On top of that, it looks like I'm gonna have to marry the girl sooner rather than later."

"Is that so?" Elizabeth said, the alcohol starting to make her progressively apathetic. "It seems like quite the quandary you've gotten yourself into."

"Right? It's like a plot ripped right out of the sort of dramas you lot watch."

Elizabeth didn't immediately reply at first. She was interested in the dance floor again. Her free time outside of work was going to draw to a close soon, so she had to decide right then and there whether she was going to join the fray, which had gotten fuller since the last time she checked. She decided against it for the time being. As outgoing as she might have normally been, she didn't want to accidentally harm any innocent civilians if they didn't know how to deal with her unique brand of dancing, especially as her first time doing it out in public. That occasion would be reserved for her next visit to the club.

"You listening to me anymore?" the Man No Longer Cradling a Beer By Himself asked her.

Elizabeth stuck her hand briefly inside her blue clothing, retrieving a card that was apparently hidden inside a breast pocket. She held it up in front of her, revealing to him a side of the card that was also blue and depicted a picture of a mask of some sort.

"Normally, I'm not one to make business offers since that's usually my boss' job, but for times like this, he doesn't mind if I take charge. We haven't had a client in months and due to certain circumstances that have recently taken place, it looks like we won't be getting repeat business from our last one, who was especially consistent in working with us," she said.

"What? Look, Elizabeth, was it? I've got enough on my mind as it is without getting into some special deal with you. All you'll get out of me is that little life story I gave you earlier."

"Just listen," she continued, unpeturbed. "I work in a family business along with my younger brother and older sister. We deal in... helping people take their lives into their own hands."

He was silent. This was not the sort of cocaine-centric business proposal he was expecting.

"You'll have to see the specifics for the yourself, or at the very least, read up on Jung like I told you to earlier." She placed the card on the table and slid it over to the Man Now Holding An Empty Beer Bottle. The side with the mask and the blue background was still facing up. "You won't know what you'll be getting yourself into until you visit us, but more likely than not, it'll be worth your while. But," she paused, tapping the card she just handed him, "you'll need this to get in."

"Uh-huh. And where would I find you? Not that I even plan on taking you up in the first place."

"I can't tell you where exactly. But we're out in the open, in a place many people should know about, yet never actually go near." The conversation was apparently concluding, for as soon as Elizabeth said that, she said to the bar tender meandering by some bottles in a far corner, "Gochisousama deshita." It felt slightly odd to the Man Now Reverting to Drinking Alone Again, but he didn't feel like calling her out on it. She felt like a foreigner to the entire world at this point, and not just Japan.

"I hope to be seeing you around," Elizabeth said, smiling alluringly. She left as briskly as she had come in, with the club now feeling the same as ever without her presence.

Man Drinking Alone didn't say good-bye to Elizabeth, still slightly weirded out by the previous chat he had just had with her. He looked over by his right wrist, finally noticing the card she had left behind for him. He turned it over and viewed the other side. There was irony to be found in the picture, depicting a man hanging upside down by one leg, with the other one forming a cross of some sort.

"First the dreams and now this thing, huh?" He said to himself. He didn't quite know what to make of all this, so for the moment, he decided to resume his normal familial past time and live up to his name. Man Drinking Alone was going to Man Drink Alone his way to figuring out what to do next.

@Pepsiman: Amazing, I really felt for Man Drinking Alone as he tried to live up to his name.

Will chapter two include Funky Student or Mysterious Fox?

@FlipperDesert: As you may or may not have noticed already, chapter two has already been posted for your reading pleasure. Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of both Funky Student and Mysterious Fox, both of whom I originally planned but couldn't quite work into the current plot arc yet. While I don't want to give away future developments of the story, it's possible that they could show up as important characters later on in the story.

@Pepsiman: I agree that its a small possibility, but they may have made some early art and then aged Gabe later and decided to put the younger Gabe art in P3P.  All this assumes Trauma team takes place in like 2015, I don't know if that's true or not.   And character names change all the time so a "Vincent" changing to Gabe later isn't that big of a deal.

But the eye color looks different to me and if it was promoting Trauma Team you'd think there would have been more official confirmation since the games are now out in both Japan and the US.

@FlipperDesert: Should the demand to continue be present, I can keep going. This quasi-fake fanfiction stuff is no more speculative about the nature and characterization of Man Drinking Alone than anything else this thread has ultimately postulated, so it fits in quite nicely. That, and I like being able to stretch my creative muscles.

@Pepsiman:  I'll keep reading. Elizabeth seems a little out of character but it's entertaining so far.

So Man Drinking Alone is the Hanged Man arcana? Is his persona Hell Biker? Hell Biker's pretty rad.

Yeah I know. I got released on December of '08 though so it's more like one year and a half to me. It just feels a lot fresher in my head anyway.

I think this is very interesting. Having to save people before they hit the bottom in their dreams sounds like a real Persona story.

Wait a minute. Gabe's younger version... This is interesting. Gabe has a son, hasn't he? Victor's girlfriend may be pregnant.

Either that or the equivalent of the Midnight Channel. Like if you hit the bottom, you get attacked by a Shadow?

The concept of dreams/falling definitely sounds like it would be an awesome Persona theme, so I'm hoping for that!

As for the theory about Gabe, I'unno -- honestly, I see more differences over similarities. If you wanted to stretch it a little, the dates kiiiind of line up -- Trauma Team takes place sometime after 2021 (since Second Opinion is dated around 2021), P3P ends in 2010, and Gabe's son, Joshua,  is 10 if I remember correctly -- but really? I think that's all a coincidence. He just doesn't come off as how Gabe does, and his appearance differs quite a bit, as many other people pointed out.
