Battle themes are a very important aspect of turn based RPGs, at least to me, and Persona 4's was undoubtedly very popular. Because of this, many "official" variations of the theme exist and I'm curious to see which of them resonates more with people.

My choice goes to Persona 4 Arena's, because I find that it's a more refreshing take on the original compared to the others and it fits Yu as a character surprisingly well.

I like all of them but the Arena version. This is because it is the most different all the others are interchangeable.

I'm partial to the Reincarnation version. The original cut off at just the right time; after that, we get to see the lyricist suffer a stroke. A beautiful, yet clearly insane stroke.

time to make history is the correctist answer of them all

Always sounds the best to me when I'm watching the band in live performances, Reach Out to the Truth especially.

I like the original one just fine.

This thread is triggering PTSD-style flashbacks to staying up for two days straight watching the P4 Endurance Run.

The First Battle version is my favorite, if that says anything in particular about me.

I'm pretty sure it'd take three days to finish the entire thing

First Battle. That guitar intro...

P4 Arena hasn't been released here yet but I just listened to that version and I gotta say it's the best one.

They are all pretty damn awesome!

Original is fine, just fine. Reincarnation just sounds like a live version. I feel like anything that gives the vocals more lift just exposes exactly how incredibly Engrishy it sounds.

Having subtitles on the Animation songs just makes them incredibly hysterical.

Actually it would take more than 4.

First Battle is the only one I keep on my ipod. Honestly the battle theme was one of my least favorites on the soundtrack, though that's typically the case because almost no song stays good after you've heard it a thousand times throughout the game.

All versions are pretty great, but I like most the live one, 'cause it mantains the original structure, but has more POWA!

Live version. THOSE HORNS, FUCKERS.

I really like all of them, but if I had to rank them I'd probably say

First Battle>Original>P4A>Live>Reincarnation.

I feel like this is one of those things that would vary depending on when you asked me though.

It's got to be First Battle. Honestly though, I like the music from the P4A version just as much, if not more, but it's the re-used vocals that throw me off, the music and vocals don't jive together very well.

The only real answer:

(I picked the Original though the First Battle version is pretty good too)

This > First Battle > Reincarnation = Original = Arena

#23 Posted by FluxWaveZ (17845 posts) - 7 months, 11 days ago

So the most liked version of the theme is the first one heard in the game, the second liked version is the second heard in the game and the least liked version is the newest version of them all.

For the record: This one is probably my favorite version of Reach Out to the Truth (Which I guess would technically be Live Band Reincarnation feat. Lotus Juice.) Also, apologies for the quality, it's not the best but it's the only one on YouTube as far as I'm aware.

I don't like this song much at all, but I'd go with First Battle if I had to pick one.

@Ben_H: I was waiting for someone to post this hahaha.

#27 Posted by LochNessie82 (13 posts) - 7 months, 8 days ago

The original. I have it as the default ringtone on my phone!

#28 Posted by TooWalrus (11800 posts) - 7 months, 8 days ago

You know, I've been listening to Reincarnation in the car lately and god damn, that version is pretty good too. I can't understand a fucking word of that 2nd verse, but man it sounds good.

I'm glad somebody else thought to bring this up. The song itself is fantastic, but the name is absolutely FANTASTIC.

It's actually kind of hard to choose between the official versions though. I prefer the first battle to the generic battle version for that extra bit of buildup, but there's nothing wrong with the shorter one at all. The Live Band version is pretty great, but doesn't really seem like it would work for the battle system of the game. The P4Arena version is pretty great too, and fits with the fighting game format. What it really boils down to, though, is which has the best keyboard, and that has to go to the Reincarnation version. Besides, that one tells you to "quit that shizzle" which is a great lyrical choice.

#31 Posted by Captain_Felafel (1309 posts) - 7 months, 8 days ago

It's real close between the Original and First Battle, but I think Original takes it. Close third for the Arena version; that version is dope.

First Battle fucking kills it with that intro.
