Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.
To be released in Spring 2012 by Dengeki Bunko, it'll be set one year after the end of the game where Naoto is in a different school and setting. It'll be interesting to see what direction it'll take.

We're talking about a character in a universe where people are able to summon entities representative of their souls to cast magic and where exists a whole world inside of your TV set. Being too fantastical is the least of the book's concerns.

Yep! I for one will totally continue to eat up everything Persona 4-related they throw at me until that stuff starts to decrease in quality to the point of ruining the original. But so far, it's all aces. The anime is pretty great, I'm swimming in Megahouse Persona 4/3 keychain figures, looking forward to the fighting game, and this novel seems cool. I'm just worried that Atlus won't know when to stop milking Persona 4 and move on to something else.

When this Persona 4 stuff is done, they'll obviously want Persona 5 to have an equal or an even bigger effect on people so that they can produce these kind of offshoots based on it, so it'll push them even harder to make Persona 5 a great game.

Indeed! All this Persona 4 branding is making me antsy for anything related to Persona 5. Most of all, I'm just anxious to see what kind of game it is. Persona 1 and 2 were one very distinct style of game, while Persona 3 and 4 were entirely another. Whether they'll stick to the formula established in the previous 2 games or try and create something different again is what I'm most excited about. That and the kind of tone they'll try to go for, that too will be interesting to see.
One can hope any sort of announcement isn't too far off!

Never say never. But either way, this is a Megami Tensei novel. There are bound to be fantastic properties in the story.
@Captain_Felafel: Its only when the quality of the product gets bad that it needs to stop. Hopefully it doesn't go there and Atlus will do the smart thing by slowly putting P4 related products out.
What different school? Different setting? They were all supposed to stay together forever damnit, Nooooo!
You really can't say it's surprising though. I'd say less than half of the Investigation Team would stay in Inaba for any extensive period of time after High School, and I'd even go as far as to assume that Naoto would have left within days of the protagonist's departure.
I'd definitely give this a read if they translated it though. My horrible use of time in my various playthroughs has always made Naoto feel like an eleventh hour character, and she probably deserves a better representation than that.
I seemed to have missed the Naoto boat. I wanted to like her, but her only function as a character seemed to be getting people who hadn't played the game in a while up to speed quickly.
Also, just give me Persona 5 already. I haven't played a JRPG in years, and I'm starting to jones for one. I want to scratch that it's with P5 so I can return to not playing them for years.
In all seriousness though it makes perfect sense, most of the team would stay there but Rise and Naoto would definitely leave afterwards. Meeting through the TV's negates that anyway.
Yeah she is a great character to use, I forced her into my main party and she sweeps up in dungeons with the light and dark spells, just a little crappy against bosses though.. Her S-Link can be weirdly specific , one of the few that can be fucked up easily.

If I remember, it's one of the only 2 that can be reversed, but you kinda have to be a complete dick for that.
I used Naoto against the final boss with no problems.
Anyway, novel sounds interesting. I know it most likely won't get an official translation, but that's what live journal and other sites are for.

Remember that she was only a first-year high school student in P4, so she was about fifteen years old. In the novel, I presume she's seventeen or eighteen. A year and change is a lot of time for an adolescent's body to mature.
Ah. Its hard to get a grasp on how the artstyle looks based on that little cover image, which is why I didn't notice.

Who are the writers?
It just says the story's a collaboration between 電撃文庫(Dengeki Bunko: The publisher) ×電撃マオウ(Dengeki Maou)×ペルソナチーム(Persona Team). Since Dengeki Maou is involved, the art is probably going to be done by the artist of the manga. They haven't announced a specific author (and they probably won't as ATLUS is weird like that).
Though the funny thing is the comments on 2ch which range from "Naoto looks perfect with long hair" to "the bike is a rip-off from Akira" to "It (Naoto) makes me feel sick"
