Game » consists of 5 releases. Released Jul 10, 2008
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.
Re-Endure the Persona 4 Endurance Run: Episode 1!
Oh yes, I figured that out a while ago. It's just that this particular embed format is the only one, aside from the scrunched-up low res version, that will allow the videos to be watched on Opera's web browser. Also, I think it looks the best out of the possible embedded styles, but that's secondary to the ability to finally watch the Endurance Run on my browser of choice once again.
If people would rather have them embedded like this:
Then I'll do it.
I've been watching it for the first time over the last couple of weeks. I'm currently on episode 38 and it's really making me want to dig out my PS2, find a copy of Persona 4 and sink 100+ hours into it.
If only I had the time!
"I'm currently on episode 38 and it's really making me want to dig out my PS2, find a copy of Persona 4 and sink 100+ hours into it.Well I'm re-enduring with the rest of us here, and its already inspired me to fire up the PS2 and play through P4 for my fourth time. Yeah, I need help.
But whatever, I'm starting up college again here in the next month, so I need a good time sink.
Two episodes today! They clock in at about 50 minutes combined, so it's a good primer for some of the later episodes, which can get pretty long. Not much happening in these, with the social links still getting off the ground and Charlie finding work. Vinny and Jeff are just going to blow all the cash in the compendium, but it's the thought that counts.
Episode 17
Episode 18
Still, things pick up when they join one of the social clubs tomorrow, meet one of my favorite characters in the game, and they're going to be back in the dungeon before long. The unholy beat-down they get on the next trip almost makes up for how bad I got destroyed on my run through Persona 4.
Also, the new plan is to embed the videos in the first post with all the quality options and the like, and embed them in these posts throughout the thread in this opera-compatible format. That way everyone is happy, everyone can watch, and I don't have to constantly switch browsers. Good for everyone!
Back to the single episodes today. 19! The guys meet Yumi, a.k.a. every girl I knew in High School.
That band girl always kinda freaked me out too...
Yumi. Her social link is a totally accurate representation of pretty much every girl I was friends with back in school.
Yay! Started re-watching the P4 ER a couple weeks ago and I'm up to episode 30. One of my favorite things about this ER is hearing Jeff and Vinny's opinions of this game go from skeptical, to accepting, and finally to really enjoying the game. This is something which I never really found happening in the Deadly Premonition ER. There was something always keeping the guys from truly enjoying the game, be it controls, game play, etc.
I want to share something, I started playing Persona 3 portable and I remember that Episode when the P4 Cast goes to Tatsumi Port Island , people where saying that "how could Vinny have missed all those Persona 3 references?!", music, places and some characters , I think Vinny didn´t want to say anything because Jeff didn´t play Persona 3 theres no way he would have miss so much stuff , maybe he did it so Jeff wouldn´t felt like he was mising something some joke or a reference so he just stay as if everything was new wich I tough was the best way to handle that part of the episode
New episodes have been great, social linking remains awesome. Yumi's all right so far; she's a little more full of herself than most of the girls I met in the drama department at my high school, but obviously it's her more deeply inset insecurity that makes her act that way. She reminds me more of the poetry girls.
The Yukiko Rescue Mission is back on! If we're talking favorite episodes of the Endurance Run, this one gets honorable mention at least.
Love this episode so much. The capsule machine fiasco, Vinny and Jeff debate the merits of making out with Yumi v. Saving a life, amazing reactions after seeing the mid-boss ("That makes sense-Wow." "CRAP."), the team gets completely worked over in a single turn, and Drew Scanlon saves the Endurance Run!
Man, this episode was INTENSE. I still wonder what happens if you somehow manage to fail to save a life.
Never failed a dungeon do to time restraints, so I don't know gameplay wise what happens. I hear you get set back.
You do get some messed up phone calls from people telling you that the person you were trying to rescue was found dead, though. And in the case of one character, you get a call from them and hear them being murdered over the phone. Pretty screwed up.
I've watched the entire ER like 3 times, so far, and I still watch random episodes like almost daily..
Good stuff
" @Underachiever007 said:Well, they finished it insofar as they realized it sucked and hung out with Chie instead.I'm pretty sure they never finished it." I remember it took them a long ass time to get done with Yumi's social link. "
Really? I vaguely remember them hanging out with her a little to raise their Expression and maxing out her Social Link. Might be misremembering." @mutha3 said:

I'm gonna watch the next episode now, as I've got work today. Let me know if we're starting a new thread, though!
Episode 21! There's something really nice aesthetically about the red/pink fog in Yukiko's castle...
The Mages, another Endurance Run staple. Vinny and Jeff get lucky so many times in that fight that it makes my head hurt. Their total inability to notice that the beetles are, in fact, reflecting physical attacks also makes me need some aspirin, but hey, they pulled it off! Can't argue with results.
We'll be moving to a second thread after episode 25, unless enough people make arguments and cow me into submission.
Ahem, watching EP 21 takes me back. I remember first seeing it and just silently face-palming to myself as they ran past enemies after getting rocked so hard by the mid-boss. It also made me a tad tense cause by that point, I had already experienced the Yukiko fight. So I was like "DAMMIT LEVEL UP!"
And that's when I learned to not think about the endurance run in any form of logic. It makes your brain hurt. But, by being so under prepared for most of the fights in this game it did ratchet up the drama in these type of situations. Which makes for a compelling viewing experience.
Episode 22! Gearing up for one of the more challenging boss battles in the game, the guys turn to the comments section for help.
Love the tension in this episode, considering that a loss would likely have meant the end of the Endurance Run. Still, the guys got some good advice, things went shockingly well for them in getting everything they needed to increase the odds of a victory, and Vinny nearly brings an end to it all in the last two minutes anyways. Great times!
@Gnorbooth:
The Endurance Run gets amazingly tense, even though I already know how it ends. Every time they switch to a persona that's weak to what's being cast or totally miss an incredibly damaging status effect, like the SP draining ones later on, I end up wringing my hands. Pretty awesome.
Yukiko's Shadow Boss Fight is a go!
Not going to say too much about this one, but man, that was suspenseful. Enjoy!
Episode 24~ The relaxation following the first major boss battle of the game, and some more investigation into the midnight channel and the identity of the murderer.
Dojima and Adachi continue to be great anytime they're on screen. That whole scene with them was pretty... well, let's just say it spawned more than one horrifically graphic fanfiction. Spoilers for the endgame, but
The next team member is my favorite character in the game, hands down. Things pick up in a big way after that.
A short episode today to take some pressure off of anyone who's behind in the viewing. Episode 25!
Jeff's story about always wanting to date a girl that sings about steak reminds me how creepily attuned to these two it seems sometimes. Maybe someone that vaguely knew Jeff made it into the localization team? Also, I wish Ryan would heckle every episode of the Endurance Run.
MORE RYAN HECKLING!!!!!
Back to ep24 though. The conversation about cable boxes and scrambled porn really takes me back to my childhood...I mean, who would totally do that? Not me. Sheesh!
I also dated a girl that loved steak more then I did, but she never sang about it. Does that count?
Is it worth watching again even if you have already seen the ER and played the game yourself?
Also they should make Persona 5. Cathrine seems kind of cool, but I'd rather have Persona 5 (or Persona 4-2 with Chie, Yukari and the rest in collage now that they have graduated from high school).
I remember having a cable box that would give us free scrambled channels on certain days if you got lucky. First exposure to anime was seeing something I really shouldn't have one weekend with my parents unconscious a room over. Weird times...
And any girl that can appreciate a good steak is cool in my book.
@dagas:
I consider it worth it. I beat Persona 4 before I realized Giant Bomb was even a site, so it sort of brought me here. Then I realized that Jeff, Vinny, Ryan and Brad were pretty awesome and stuck around to see what they got into. Which has definitely been worth it.
Also, I like that Catherine is taking the chance to tackle some issues they touch on in a few of the Persona games in way more depth. I like it as a sort of break from the main Persona series. Also, as great as Catherine is looking, you know when they do get around to another Persona game, it's going to be all kinds of awesome.
I think Atlus is doing something neat with Catherine. It's nice to see the Persona team cutting their teeth on learning "current-gen" tech without their biggest title being on the line in case something goes south. Having a go at Catherine first just guarantees that Persona 5 is going to be a bigger and better game. Which is what all of us probably want.
But on top of that, I am genuinely interested in everything Catherine as well. Neat premise, novel gameplay, even if it is a little "not the norm" or possibly not the most exciting thing ever, and let's not forget it's the Persona team telling a different story. With new characters and settings...consider me EXCITE!
@Make_Me_Mad:
Weird times, but amazing times!!!!! Being a bit older now, I certainly miss growing up and doing stupid things like trying to catch a peek on scrambled stations while the parents are asleep. But I still do stupid things, they just effect life long term now haha. And that's a new pre-requisite for any future lady friends, they gotta love steak!
Episode 26! We're sticking with this thread for a while longer. Fair warning, this episode is mostly fighting through low level enemies to get back to the top of the dungeon.
Kind of surreal to hear them talking about RE4 and RE5, and Gears of War. Makes you remember just how long ago this all was.
Episode 27. More grinding and running to the top of the dungeon, but they do have their first encounter with the Arcana Chance cards in this episode.
Enemies that are immune to physical attacks or worse continue to be forgotten about! The Emperor causes something to happen! Omoikane is unsettling looking, but also pretty awesome. Tomorrow, a boss battle! Tune in.
