    Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.

    It is said that characters who seen him in sum shape or form will gain the ability to summon more then one Persona. This explains why in P3 and P4 most of the team can only summon one. It's up to you if you want to see this as hard fact.

    Justifying this is so not worth it though considering how the MCs' abilities in P3 and P4 were foremost built around the gameplay.

    @Ineedaname: Philemon makes no in-person appearance in Persona 3 or 4.  However, some people seem to have interpreted the butterfly used for save points in both games as his presence, as the butterfly was symbolic of him in Persona and Persona 2.

    Yeah read that on the wiki, seems like a cop out to me.

    Well, I thought he got that power in Persona 4 by another means...  And in Persona 3, wasn't it the contract that your character signs in the beginning by Pharos?  And Aigis gets that power differently as well.
