Before this would happen though he did work on various Disney games which were destined for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. He worked on popular games like Aladdin, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Goof Troop. By the time 1996 came he was ready to develop new games, he wanted to make games geared towards a more mature audience. His first game, Resident Evil (known as Biohazard in Japan) would become a classic and spawn a series of successful sequels and off shoots. It has become one of the most recognizable and popular series all around the world.
After the huge success of the original Resident Evil game he was immediately made a producer over at Capcom and oversaw the making of the sequels to the game Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. While doing this he also made another survival horror game called Dino Crisis which came out in 1999. It was here he crafted and began a new popular series known as Devil May Cry, it was the fisrt game Mikami made as a general manager.
In the new millenium Mikami took on two new games each of which were immensely popular. One of them was the dreamcast game, Resident Evil: Code Veronica and the other was a Playstation 1 game known as Dino Crisis 2. Both of these games were immensely popular during their releases.
With the new generation of games, Shinji Mikami took on a new challenge and formed a deal with Nintendo. It was agreed he'd bring all the Resident Evil games to the console as well as a new installment known as Resident Evil: Zero. Resident Evil 4 would also be made exclusive to the Gamecube which did not last long as it would later be ported to the Playstation 2 and the Nintendo Wii. Mikami also made a variety of other new games exclusive to the Gamecube, these were P.N.03, Viewtiful Joe, Dead Phoenix, and Killer Seven. P.N.03 was a critical failure and harmed Mikami's career but he bounced back releasing Resident Evil 4, the most critically acclaimed Resident Evil game and the most widely sold. It was a critical and commercial success. Viewtiful Joe was another successful game Mikami made which eventually saw it's way to the Playstation 2.
These days Mikami is not with Capcom anymore despit the fact he has loose ties with them. He formed his own development studio known as Straight Story, they developed the critical success known as No More Heroes for the Nintendo Wii. Currently, Mikami is working on an undisclosed project at PlatinumGames for Sega and is also a consultant on project Goichi Suda and Q Entertainment are working on for the EA Partners label.
