Sign ups for the beta are now open at http://www.shootmania.com/

After the trailer that was just released I'm incredibly excited. I'm an old UT2004 player and this is looking to scratch that itch.

I dunno, it's a competitive fps without any form of gun porn. Looks very very bland so far. Thanks for the headsup though.

Totally just signed up, can't wait to play, maybe I'll actually get into this unlike most shooters that come out today.

I signed up awhile ago and still haven't got one. How's the beta? I don't have a PC anyway tho... was just gonna give it to my brother and check it out on his PC.

Jeff should do a quicklook!

So I played in the Alpha and now will be playing the beta. I think the game has a ton of potential and Elite is a very interesting gametype. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the movement system, and this game is begging for iCTF.

Movement. Feels somewhat like Quake, however walking around is a little more slippery. That's not the biggest problem. My beef has to do with the sprinting. You have a sprint meter which makes you move faster, obviously. To use this meter, you must first either jump or walk off a platform. While in mid-air, you press the jump button again and hold it down. This creates issues where the user presses the jump button too late, causing an extra jump to happen. In a game like this, accidentally jumping most often results in death. I can't fathom why this is the path they chose to implement sprinting. I can only hope they improve it or change it completely.

I'm really surprised they haven't mentioned the game at all. Maybe they've forgotten?

I'm not a fan of the movement either, and that sprint thing is just duuummbb. The only game modes I've found are all free-for-all and I'd really rather play on a team. Hopefully more people will be activating within the week.

Only really played it for about 30 minutes, but I have to agree about the sprinting. Took me too long to figure out what was happening and it doesn't feel right at all. I'm not a competitive shooter guy though and I went into it as a Trackmania fan, and the game still felt super fun in the same way Trackmania is for me. I've got no chance of getting as good at it as I have done with Trackmania, but that's alright.

Go into the Mania Store or scroll out from the main menu and install Elite and Joust.
