    This is the first time music created for a video game won a Grammy. So that's cool, I guess.

    Civilization V can't even touch Civ IV because it doesn't have that song.

    Allright, found it. It's only on wikipedia though. Not even the official Grammy website lists all the categories. Weird. The guy won two grammies though, one for Civ IV and the other for Calling All Dawns.

    That song is badass and totally deserves it.  But why is it being awarded now? That game came out several years ago as did the song.

    I was wondering the same thing, but congrats to TIm. That song always got stuck in my head after being in the menu of Civ.

    I'm glad this won. Sure, the Grammys mean absolutely nothing, but it's cool seeing a game nominated for something outside of the Spike VGA awards or some indie awards that nobody in the mainstream public has heard of.

    The only other song I can think of that comes close to this one is Adagio for Strings in Homeworld but I don't think that was composed specifically for that game.

    It's pretty awesome that Christopher Tin got a grammy for something he originally composed for a game.

    Man, I love that song, especially in conjunction with Homeworld. Immediate goosebumps, every time. It fits the tone of the game so well.
     
    According to Wikipedia, Samuel Barber composed the piece in the 30s for strings. He arranged it for choir in 1967.

    Played this in band class several years ago. Also the Halo and Kingdom Hearts themes. My teacher was big into Video Games Live and a really cool guy in general. 
     
    Anyway, it's probably my favourite piece of video game music ever, so there's that. Pretty happy about this.

    Fantastic news. I actually booted up Civ IV last night and Baba Yetu is still one of my favourite video game themes, it's greatly undervalued.

    Civ 5 has better tunes. Like that one French tune. And that one Aztec tune. You know.  
    Here, found it. Mahler's Symphony Number 5. Jesus what a tune. A condensed version of this song is on the OST for Civ 5.
