    Eh...

Civilization is an amazing series of strategy video games for the PC, now with Sid Meier himself returning to design the game, the game series goes to consoles. Is it worth conquering the world over? Kinda.

If you've never played Civ, basically you control a civilization like the French, Americans, Russians, Germans, etc. Trying to conquer the world through military might, culturally, scientifically, or economically. Along the way you'll meet many other civiilzations trying to do the same as you. You can make peace and work together or destroy them, it's your choice.
A complaint I had with Civ Rev was that it was too easy. WAAAAAAAY to easy. In Civ IV (quick warning, I will be comparing these games a lot) I tried to stay put of war, I would only declare war if neccesary. In this, almost every time I meet a new Civ, I'll declare war because the A.I. is AWFUL they will rarely attack your cities (btw, I was on King difficulty) and once you get Legion units, you're set for a long time. I kept a Legion army for the entire game, it was ridiculous. This game is so militarily centered, I have never beaten it without a Domination (have all civs capitals) Victory, and guess what? I won that first domination victory without getting Gunpowder. Thats how easy this game is compared to Civ IV, the one I'm most used to.

Something I liked about the game in comparison to Civ IV, was the combat system. In Civ IV, you could group units, but it would still always be 1 on 1 combat. In Rev, Armies (3 of the same units grouped together) give attack and defence bounses, which makes combat more fair.
Also, what happened to the workers? In Civ IV, workers build improvements to tiles surrounding your Cities, in Rev they do the dame thing, but they're automated, why? I ask, but thats a minor gripe.
The Tech Tree was also downgraded a lot, there are a lot fewer technologies to unlock and as far as I know, there is no menu to tell you how far you are from getting a certain tech.
Overall, Rev is pretty good and you should definatley give it a rent if you are a fan of the series.

One of the reasons that PC gaming remains as strong as it does is because it is almost impossible to port certain games to consoles. You can quite easily push over a first-person shooter, but real-time strategy and MMORPGs are awkward at best. The most difficult, however, are turn-based strategy titles that require obscene amounts of micromanagement, where a keyboard and a mouse are almost required to play the game correctly. Of these games, one of the most popular is Civilization, which is a co...

      Civilization Revolution 0

Reviewing Civilization is different from reviewing other games. It's not the graphics or the sound effects, things people are focussing on nowadays. It's not the fact that it is turn-based. It was done before. No. It's the concept that is so appealing. Or better, it's the feeling you get from playing the game with such a strong concept. It's human history in one simple game. It enables you to really really feel the power of being a world leader. On you it depends what will happen to your subject...
