Giantbomb Regions???

#1 Posted by ErTDaemon (46 posts) -

I love me some SimCity. But I have a problem that my Origin account friends list is totally barren... Given the new coop slant, does anyone want to join me in creating some Great Works? My Origin account is Daemonhunter24. Not sure how this is going to work out, but it would be nice to have some fellow Duders working together!

I'm Eurozone if that is an issue?

#2 Posted by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

We've met up in plenty of other games, I don't see why it couldn't happen in SimCity if it turns out to not completely suck.

#3 Edited by Optix12 (612 posts) -

Im very stuck on this game, I really dont want to spend £35 for a PC game when im so used to finding basically any PC game on release or preorder for £25 for a game. im not sure if it may even have as crazy depth as im hoping it will. If i do get it I would be in the euro area name: Optix12 and probably a few days after release

#4 Posted by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

35? USD? That's not exactly expensive for a brand new video game, but in any case wait for reviews.

#5 Edited by kre8havoc (173 posts) -

Hey I'd like a friend on my origin list! I'm Kre8havoc. I'll buy that game.

#6 Posted by thebunnyhunter (1394 posts) -

Well my origin friends list is a wasteland and i plan on buying SimCity, I would like to get in on that MP region action. My origin account is thebunnyhunter.

#7 Posted by Daveyo520 (6687 posts) -

Sure I guess I can have another city with GB peeps.

#8 Posted by mandude (2669 posts) -

@funkydupe: £35 would be around $55, which is fairly high as far as PC games go.

How exactly does this multiplayer work? I've preordered the game, but I didn't know anything about this. Do our economies kind of just riff off of each other or is it something else entirely?

#9 Posted by squiDc00kiE (351 posts) -

If anyone wants to add me I preordered this game too. squiDc00kiE (those are zeros)

#10 Posted by Ennosuke (59 posts) -

My Origin Account Name is: Inaigun

I also have no friends on Origin, but I have pre ordered Sim City, so it makes sense to make some new friends :D

#11 Posted by Time_Lord (714 posts) -

Add me I'm Bartiemus on Orgin I have this game pre orderd

#12 Edited by Daveyo520 (6687 posts) -

@mandude: You can buy power and other resources from neighboring cities. People also commute to and from each city. Crime and polution can affect other cities. Your police, fire departments and other servicies can also help other cities.

#13 Posted by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

@mandude: When I answered the post it just said "35", I only assumed he meant dollars.

#14 Posted by Optix12 (612 posts) -

@funkydupe: Yea usually i write something about being in the UK and that would be my currency, let it slip this time.

Watching Norms livestream it only looked like there was enough space for 4 or 5 cities on his island but theres 16 player coop. My next question is i wonder how the timers could relate to other cities. Im on the verge of preordering this thing now that theres no Vita drop for a while.

#15 Posted by Musou (381 posts) -

Count me in! I'm unreasonably excited for this game (seeing I've never been the most avid SimCity player). Origin account is MusouBR.

#16 Posted by mandude (2669 posts) -

So would I be able to build some sort of crime haven, where there are no police stations and my criminals slowly fan outward and pollute your cities with unprecedented amounts of crime?

Because if so, I would like to join this club.

#17 Posted by ZZoMBiE13 (313 posts) -

I'm in. My Origin name is the same as my name here (and everywhere else for that matter). I pre-ordered the expensive version because i'm a stupid head... err, because I desperately need the digital only content it provides.

#18 Edited by Sanity (1901 posts) -

Im really on the fence... iv had this game on my radar for awhile but not sure if its going to be any good. If i get it i'll be looking here for people to play with tho, no origin friends at all ) =

#19 Edited by TJUK (97 posts) -

I have no friends. On Origin at least. I'm in the UK and would love to get in on some Simcity action with some Giantbombers. Count me in!

My origin account is Bumpkin79.

#20 Edited by Daveyo520 (6687 posts) -

@mandude: Indeed you can. You can also pollute up the place and make everyone sick everywhere. Also if you want lots of criminals build a casino town and have no schools.

Also my Origin is my screenname.

#21 Posted by Fattony12000 (7320 posts) -

I'm here and want to play. I also wrote an 'article' about SimCity and submitted it to a place. If it gets accepted I'll shit my pants with blood.

Yes, I'll play SimCity with you all. Origin name is the same as on here.

I'm in, planning to make the most dense/polluted city possible but can supply just about anything. @optix12: The beta region is way smaller than what it will be in the normal game. If you look at some of the videos out there I can definitely see how 16 people will be able to place their own city down. Also, I think the "ghost town" issue would only work like that in that specific scenario where the person does absolutely nothing. I was listening to another interview where they pretty much said that when a person leaves, there city goes into a saved state of sorts where it will still supply things as usual.

Origin ID is Chainreaction01

Except that city is stuck there like that and cant be changed unless you get rid of that entire region. So if i invite someone to my game and they do half a city then never log in again im stuck with whats there. Thats my understanding anyways.

#27 Edited by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

Can every city have a Dr Vu and MaxisMan?

You're right, I guess I'm just not bothered too much by that possibility since I play multilayer with the expectation that everything will go horribly wrong at some point and single player to have my utopia. Hopefully they do change that though since sooner or later people will stop playing and the ratio of players to ghost towns will shift for the worse.

#29 Posted by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

@chainreaction01: Unless the late/end game of a city has reasons for the player to stick around, won't there be lots of "finished" cities by the first day of gaming?

#30 Posted by chainreaction01 (176 posts) -

That's a high possibility, especially after beta pushed the idea of min/maxing at Cheetah speed into peoples minds. In terms of actual content though I can't really say, pretty sure they have leader-board type deals but I'm not sure how much of a driving factor that will be to get people to keep playing their "finished" cities.

#31 Posted by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

@chainreaction01: I look forward to see what there is to do in terms of management and improvement options once you have every plot of land zoned and covered. I can't imagine they've made a game that you can essentially finish within one to two hours of continuous gameplay - and be expected to just start over in City B.

#32 Posted by Optix12 (612 posts) -

Yea been looking up on this and im going to wait a few days to get initial reactions to the game. The build size just seems a little too small and regions will probably fill up fast to the point where people are probably going to get to endstate together really quickly early on. I hope they introduce the larger build sections they were thinking about earlier rather than later.

#33 Posted by itspizza (433 posts) -

I pre ordered the game on amazon, but I'm assuming it still runs through Origin. Would love to see a GB state. ID is: itsapizza

You know the beta was just a very small map to use in your hour of play.

Count me in. My Origin name is MrRizzo. I'm gonna throw out some invites.

Edit: Changed my username to Doc_Beaker86

#36 Edited by Dacnomaniac (442 posts) -

@funkydupe: Thats probably about $40-ish USD? I'm not too sure, but £35 is close to full price here. (full price is £40)

EDIT: According to Google it's $50

#37 Posted by spookytapes (263 posts) -

I bought it and would most likely play with any of you, barring more of my IRL friends not getting it, I think a few are, but I could probably always use more than 2-3 people to play with. My origin name is: spookytapes

#38 Edited by DaMisterChief (628 posts) -

I have no friends. On Origin at least. I'm in the UK and would love to get in one some Simcity action with some Giantbombers. Count me in!

My origin account is Bumpkin79.

I have no friends period

Whelp, I preoredered the game for the same reasons as @zzombie13 so I'm totally up to join you guys. Account name is LePasq

Edit: I sent invites to all the people who confirmed they'd be in except @mandude because there are too many mandudes in Origin lol. Also @Funkydupe, I haven't understood if you're getting the game so I'll wait for your confirm. I'll be checking this thread again in the next days.

#40 Posted by Sanity (1901 posts) -

Ah well, decided to preorder it as i want to play this even though i hate EA at times. My Origin username is dudy80. Feel free to add me.

#41 Posted by Mister_V (1269 posts) -

Sure count me in.

Origin username is M1st3r_V

All over this, can wait to get a 16 person region going with arguments about who has to deal with the garbage

#43 Posted by chainreaction01 (176 posts) -

Not keeping exact count but it looks like we've got more than 16 people here. Should probably divide ourselves up at some point and decide a "Mayor of Mayors" to invite people (assuming only one person can invite to a region). Also I'm pretty sure that you have to pick a server which, if anything like the second beta, cannot interact with the other server. Even if we are in different regions it would be good to have all of Giant Bomb under one roof.

#44 Posted by ZZoMBiE13 (313 posts) -

it would be good to have all of Giant Bomb under one roof.

Agreed.

#45 Posted by HeyImPhoenix (169 posts) -

I am sure I heard that if a player is inactive for a certain amount of time then his city is auctioned off. It was on that Maxis Live broadcast.

#46 Edited by Funkydupe (3311 posts) -

@heyimphoenix: GOOD. It keeps the regions alive. For some reason this makes me think of SWG and all the ghost towns people left behind, hogging all the good spots for cities.

#47 Posted by bobo6463 (20 posts) -

Count me in as well.

Origin name: bobo6463

I just picked this up today and have the same barren Origin friends list, send me an invite. I'll add the other GBers on this list. I start building my utopia this weekend. Origin ID: jou321.

#49 Posted by ErTDaemon (46 posts) -

@chainreaction01: Whilst it's stupid to have to do it this way, I think from a practical point of view dividing groups up by release date (i.e. N. America .v. Others) seems the most sensible way of doing that.

As I said earlier, I'm in Europe, so if other Eurozone people want to gang up, we can!

#50 Posted by itspizza (433 posts) -

I now have more friends on origin than steam because of this thread haha.
