So, who else picked up Sin & Punishment?

#1 Posted by Hailinel (24968 posts) -

I picked up Sin & Punishment:  Star Successor yesterday, and so far, it's a blast.  A hell of a challenging one, too.  I'm playing through on Normal difficulty with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, though the game supports just about every control configuration save the Wii Remote by itself (you can even use the Wii Zapper, if that's your thing), and it flows very well.  About the only place where the game lacks is in the story department, but the story is actually pretty on par with a Treasure game, so it's no real big surprise there.  Also, if you want to save your ears from the English voice acting, the Japanese voice track is included.

Anyone else pick the game up yet?  What are your thoughts on it so far?

I didn't do it today, but I swear Im doing it wednesday (Also: Shantae, Valkyria Chronicles 2 and possibly a few others)

I'm surprised this game hasn't getting as much attention here than it has elsewhere. I would have thought it would be the perfect fit for Giantbomb.

But I am not so big on shooters, even if it is the replacement for Star Fox.

Would have if I had a Wii. That game looks hella fun.

I think most people could.  I mean you would have to have some brittle bone disease of some kind of muscle problem not to.  The game isn't that heavy.

Perfect for who? The staff? The users? A couple of the more active Nintendo fans on Giantbomb were banned.

I watched GiantBomb's Quick Look, but that's about as far as I'm going to go.

I married Sin.
Who's Punishment, her fat younger sister?

Just fans of shooters in general. It's crazy, it's insane, and it's really tough.

There aren't many Nintendo fans into this game, actually. Not much of a fanboy thing. The IP never got around to building mass market appeal since only being playable in Japan and on the Virtual Console.

Although you insult one of the series' fans, it probably won't go well.

I'm planning on getting it, does that count?

@Hailinel:
I got mine in the mail today! Its been a lot of fun, but I'm stuck on a certain boss. I'm playing on Hard with Isa.

Bought it day one, and have completed playthroughs for Isa and Kachi, and unlocked the ability to switch between them midgame.
Quite possibly Treasure's best game to date.

Also, it's a title where price =/= game length. I'm certainly gonna continue to increase my score.

Eventually. The first one was pretty cool, but I'm gonna hold off for a little while. This might sell bad enough for Nintendo to drop the price of the game at a reasonable time, and that's when I'll likely pick it up.

looks pretty shitty to me
just not my kind of game

Thinking about getting this game eventually. I'll have to wait until the price drops a little first, though.

6 months later, Nintendo announces Star Fox. "Awesome, finally a reason to dust off my Wii lololo!"

There's a new Star Fox game coming out for the Wii? Like SF64?

Maybe I sold my Wii too early

Your contribution to this thread has been amazing.

Sin & Punishment is definitely a game with a niche appeal, but it's still incredibly designed and in my opinion among Treasure's best.  People can bemoan the lack of Star Fox on the Wii all they want, but given that all most Star Fox fans want is just another Star Fox 64, which Nintendo is remaking for the 3DS, incidentally, I don't see what there is to complain about in that respect.  Star Successor is all about blasting things out of the sky and wracking up high scores while taking in Treasure's imaginative art and crazy boss designs.

And yes, I'd rather have this than a new Star Fox.

The character design is pure shit.

#23 Posted by InTheEnd (268 posts) -

I think I might buy it simply because it's a Treasure game. Some would say their games are "out-dated" yet there is an amazing amount of complexity in something seemingly so simple. That and my Wii has been collecting dust for the past, I donno, six mouths.

If I was still working, I would have likely picked up the game.

#25 Posted by SuperfluousMoniker (2908 posts) -

I just got it today and I'm loving it so far. It's like Star Fox with deeper gameplay and better controls. I've already seen multiple epic boss fights and I'm only on the third level. Highly recommended for people willing to play games that are, as the staff likes to put it, 'Mad Japanese.'

So what's the dirt on the nintendo fans who got banned?
