    Jailed for a crime he did not commit, Sirius Black experienced great suffering but remained a caring, loving godfather to Harry Potter. He was betrayed by one of his best friends, Peter Pettigrew, while everyone else believed him to be the one who betrayed Lily and James Potter. Sirius was the false antagonist of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and later a major protagonist in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

    Sirius Black is the last heir of the once notable pure-blood Wizarding family.  In his early years at Hogwartz School of Wizardry, Sirius found out that is close friend, Remus Lupin was a werewolf. In order to control his friend during his transformations, Sirius illegally became an Animagus allowing him to transform into a big black dog.
