Character Bio
Skidd McMarxx is a well known pro hoverboarder in the Ratchet and Clank series. He has a stereotypical skaterboarder's personality, with dialoge full of expressions such as 'Dude!' and 'Awesome'. His first appearance was in the original Ratchet and Clank game, after Ratchet received a SOS message from Skidd when his ship, the Solar Radical was crashing. When Ratchet and Clank find him on the planet Aridia, unharmed but without transport, Skidd claims he was never seriously in trouble, merely sending out a 'warcry' in an 'epic space battle'. He then proceeds to offer Ratchet a new hoverboard of his own, should he escort him safely back to his ship. Later on, Skidd allows Ratchet to take his place in a hoverboard race, as he was still suffering from a sprained ankle, which he sustained during the crash.
Skidd's last appearance in the series was in Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. In a bid to defeat Dr. Nefarious, Captain Qwark assembles the Q-Force, in which Skidd is included. Chosen for his 'nerves of steel', according to Qwark, Skidd adopts the name Shadow Dude, reflecting his special ability to be able to access areas without being detected. In one mission, he accompanies Ratchet and Clank, helping them hack their way through devices.
Later on in the game, Skidd gets himself kidnapped by Courtney Gears, who turns him into a robot while testing out the Bio-Bliterator. Ratchet and Clank manage to rescue him, but by then the transformation is complete. When they return him to the ship, Big Al suggest the process may be reversible. Although this isnt shown, Big Al was successful, and restored Skidd back to his alien form. He is also one of the many characeters featured in the series who are present at the premiere of the new Secret Agent Clank movie.
Although he isnt featured in Ratchet: Deadlocked, it is revealed that Courtney Gear's record label has replaced her with Skidd. However, it seems he doesnt have the mass appeal that Gears had, and according to Vox News anchorman, Dallas, the popularity of pro hoverboarders reading poetry out loud, isnt what it used to be.
According to
Insomniac Games' Twitter feed, Skidd celebrates his birthday on the 15th of March.
