Looked like Mike Mayday as part of the Easy Newbie pack.
Don't get the book. Online tutorials are good enough. Dave really overdid it as far as preparation goes. It's not necessarily a bad thing to do but I think he overprepared. Most of the fun is learning the basics and then diving in and dying.
Also Blizzard liked Boatmurdered and by extension Dwarf Fortress so you all should too. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/the-burning-axe-of-sankis
He was using a tile-set called Phobius.
Dave I think bought the books to see if he would like it. The books are kind of like a validation that its significant enough for someone to spend money to make a physical book. Once reading through he got the itch to play it.
That is pretty awesome Sankis. I never put it all together at the time, a friend picked it up and realized the actual stats were bad however the inscription made us all laugh.

@Akyho: Anyways how was it?
It appears as always Whiskey Media decides that the live stuff on Friday can wait. Hopefully it shows up before midnight, nothing I like more than paying just to see some obscure shit only to have it at a time where people probably have something productive to do and then just sit on my hands until it shows up.
The chat was divided, there was people being introduced to the whole game and excited by it. The other was people going "WTF IS GOING ON!? The graphics are making my eyes hurt!" "Id rather give Steve Ballmer a rimjob, than play this!"
Things is they were using a nice tileset. So the graphics were a good as they were going to get. And Id love to give Steve Ballmer a Rimjob is that is as fun as DF.
While those who already play DF were enjoying it. Its fun to see Dave confidently pronounce things, those who know in agreement with Dave. Then Vinny and Drew going "Why does that make sense!? You need to know that the chicken's knee is wet?! HOW IS THAT USEFUL!!"
Edit: The archive is up now!

Ever try using dictation? Windows 7 has in included and all you need is a microphone (headset is best). That way you can just speak and it'll type everything out. It works pretty good.
I am Dyslexic, however I have spent long enough to be able to overcome most of the short comings, it is just a few spellings I forget and need a reminder. I am not severely Dyslexic unlike other people. I am of a serviceable quality and on my A game I surpass half the people that would pick on my spelling. I am just not consistent.
ANYWAYS!!! All talk of my Dyslexia and spelling is OVER. I had a previous thread on these forums descend into two camps. Those calling me an asshole for being offended because of the way I reacted to the ass holism towards my spelling and Dyslexia. And then the other camp were people of varying understanding trying to help me. I am fine. It was one late night dyslexic post that apparently made little sense. And this is a few spelling mistakes.
Overall It all derailed the topic at hand. So Dwarf Fortress!
