Dwarf Fortress: An ambitious fantasy simulator developed by two brothers and their cat.
So, Dwarf Fortress aims to become a 'fantasy realm simulator', but it's not quite there yet. In its current stage, you can manage a single colony of dwarves and guide them either to riches or their demise. The simulation aspect of it is pretty deep; each dwarf will have their own unique personality quirks, appearances, skills, etc. Dwarf Fortress has a bit of a reputation as being hard to get into, and given the game's default look, it's not hard to see why. While the base game is completely in ASCII, there are mods (like Mike Mayday's) which make it a bit easier on the eyes.
I'm going to try to start a GB succession fort. We'll establish a fort, then take turns playing and writing about it. We'll upload the save file once we're done for the next player in line. Repeat until either the fortress crumbles or we lose interest. For an example of a ridiculously successful succession fort, see: Boatmurdered.
So, anyone interested?
If we get more than 5 people, we can probably kick it off. Don't worry about not knowing how to play the game — inexperienced players are fully welcome. Encouraged, even. The gradual downward spiral eventually every fortress finds itself in is all part of the fun.
