Ok, so someone was going to make this sooner or later, but I believe that it is discussion worthy.
Anyway, what Nintendo characters would you like to see in the new game? Any third party characters you hope to see? Is there any characters you don't want to be returning?
To start this off, I would like to see The Legendary Starfy make some sort of appearance.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Sep 13, 2014
Collectively known as "Super Smash Bros. 4", the fourth installment of Nintendo's fighting game series was released for both the Wii U console and the handheld Nintendo 3DS.
Character Wishlist
Definitely King K.Rool. After they added Dedede, it was disappointing Donkey Kong didn't get their boss character either, I was really hoping to see him.
I'd love to see Isaac or Matt from Golden Sun as a playable character too.
Preferably no guest characters. Sonic worked and Snake was pretty funny.. but I'd rather they stick to Nintendo characters. If we must have one, they need to work with MS to get Banjo Kazooie.
I want Iwata from the "it prints money" pic. He's an assist trophy. When summoned a guy says in really bad japanese "Drop the bomb Iwata-san!" Iwata's head floats around the stage dropping bombs.
Reggie, you can send me a check whenever.
Golden Sun
- Isaac
- Felix
Zelda
- Skull Kid
- Ganondorf (less of a C. Falcon clone)
- Zelda/Sheik (Skyward Sword model)
- Link (Skyward Sword model)

- Luigi (less of a Mario clone & moveset complemented heavily w/ Poltergeist 3000)
- Bowser
- Peach
- Wario
- Yoshi

- King DDD
- Meta Knight
- Adeleine
Pokémon
- Pokémon Trainer (Same version as SSBB)
- Pokémon Trainer 2 [choose between Female or Male] (Snivy, Dewott and Emboar)

Fire Emblem
- Marth
- Ike
- Lyndis
Metroid
- Samus
- Zero Suit Samus (separate character spot on roster)
- Ridley (sized appropriately ala Bowser)
EarthBound
- Ness
- Lucas
- Porky
Sonic
- Sonic
- Eggman
Metal Gear Solid
- Snake (same version as SSBB)
- Grey Fox
Donkey Kong
- Donkey Kong
- Diddy Kong
- King K. Rool
F-Zero

Others
- Pit (Kid Icarus)
- Olimar (Pikmin)
- R.O.B. (Useless accessory)
- Mr. Game & Watch (Game & Watch)
- Ice Climbers (Ice Climber)
- Mega Man (Mega Man)
- Crono (Chrono Trigger)
There were 12 characters in the original game, 25 in Melee and 36 in Brawl. This roster has 51. To have the same amount of additions from Melee to Brawl, I'd remove: Crono, Grey Fox, Eggman and Felix.
That is not going to happen, I think we will be looking somewhere around the 40 mark if we are lucky. Why? This game is going to be a sequel to SSBB. A full sequel. Not some expansion pack type of deal like Arcade Edition to Super Street Fighter IV, which even that had 4 additional characters. SSB5 will be on the Wii U, a system much more capable than the Wii. I'd say you're delusional if you think that they'll only add 4 characters to the sequel of their previous game.

I can't see a lot of those characters making it either, skull kid, porky, vaati, black shadow and a decent amount of the other characters added don't seem relevent or big enough to add.Haha, what? R.O.B., Mr. Game & Watch, Lucas, Roy, Marth, Ike, Dr. Mario and freaking Olimar are relevant but two Zelda characters aren't? They added a character of a game that was never even released in the West to SSBB (Lucas), another two characters from games that were never released in the West to SSBM (Marth and Roy) and added a character from the same niche franchise to SSBB (Ike). Yet, 2 popular Zelda characters (Skull Kid and Vaati) aren't relevant or big enough? What? Porky would be just as big as Lucas, if not bigger, and Black Shadow would be just as relevant as C. Falcon.

Plus two golden sun characters? Why not? The series is more popular than Fire Emblem, which has two characters represented in SSBB. And, like I said earlier, I'd remove Felix which would make for one representation from the series in SSB5 ala Pit.

plus the game is so far away on the pokemon side they will probably add some pokemon from the next generation we don't even know yet.The possibility that SSB5 releases before a next generation Pokémon game is slim to none. There are generally 3-4 years between Pokémon generations. Meaning, that SSB5 would need to be released in 2015 at the earliest for new Pokémon that we don't know of yet to be playable. That means 3 years after the release of the Wii U.

I can see Ike being droppedWhy? The only characters they dropped from Melee to Brawl (Dr. Mario, Pichu, Mewtwo, Roy and Young Link) were dropped because they were merely clones of other characters. All of the ones that were dropped were only clones of other characters and not even all clones were dropped as they kept the popular ones. Ike has a completely unique playstyle, which they wouldn't throw away for absolutely no reason unless to give it to another character of the same series with a similar moveset, which is unlikely.

and I don't think they will add Lyn as the only assist I see them making a full character is Little Mac.Why? The potential for Little Mac's moveset is laughable compared to what they could imagine with Lyndis and Mac isn't as popular as Lyn is in the East. Not to mention that the current roster has a considerable lack of female characters.
There's a ton of potential for costumes that has never been acted upon before. Probably due to the effort/time required to make them. But hey, maybe they could sell them as DLC for the Wii U/3DS platforms seeing how they'll (probably) support the stuff more than previous Nintendo platforms. If they put King K. Rool in there I would be a happy man. I would also love to see maybe a costume/color set for mario and friends be Paper Mario related. Maybe an Epic Yarn Kirby?
Kirby: Epic Yarn variations
Mario characters: Paper Mario variations
Zelda characters: Whole lot of different Zelda game variations (SS, OoT, TP, WW...)
Star Fox: Their clothes change pretty often, so that.
etc.
- Bowser Jr.
- Luigi (remade into Luigi's Mansion Luigi)
- Birdo
- Toad
- Tingle
- Dixie Kong
- King K. Rool
- Animal Crossing Kid / Tom Nook / K.K. Slider (you know you want at least one of these...)

- I think that is crazy to expect 50 characters in any fighting game ever, ESPECIALLY if you do not want clones in the game something that they worked to stamp out with Brawl which had just about as big a team as you can get away with. I think they will probably have to go with more characters because the fans will expect it but I think it will be around 40, if there is 50 fair enough you were right I was wrong and that's cool with me but there is no way we will know on this matter until the game is released so I am not really sure we can get anywhere here.
- Olimar is the main character in Nintendo's only relevant new IP of the last two generations, Roy and Marth were added in Melee as fire emblem reps I am guessing Roy was added because he was a quick and easy clone, they added Ike and I assume they will keep marth and rotate the other Fire Emblem character, Game and Watch is part of Nintendo history, Lucas is well known in Japan which is important, Dr Mario was a clone which they did a lot in Melee and R.O.B well I don't even know where to start on R.O.B you got me there! I don't think they can reasonably add anyone other than C.Falcon from the F-Zero franchise at this point, I don't see how Porky works as a character and as he is a boss and not a main character (I think) I can only imagine that he is unlikely, Skull Kid or Vaati I am sorry but I just don't think are popular enough, maybe they could do Vaati but I would be surprised!
- Golden Son isn't as popular as Fire Emblem, nor does it have the long established history. I don't know how Golden Sun does in Japan (I assume well) but Fire Emblem is very successful there and the GBA Fire Emblem games had good success here. I thought you said there would be two Golden Sun characters? Perhaps I misread you, I could definitely see a Golden Sun character making an appearance I am just not sure about two.
- I can am going to go ahead now and say that I think we will see this game in 2014 and I think it's possible we may have a new Pokemon generation by then, I am sure Nintendo would want to work in a Pokemon from the new generation if they could. They worked in Pokemon from the current generation in every other game in the series. This is all my own speculation.
- Hmmmm you make a very good point sir, Ike may stay in the game for that reason. I definitely see Marth returning and was unsure about Ike (I want to see Hector!) I think they may just want to keep two representatives of Fire Emblem and freshen it up with a new face but I am completely undecided on this one now.
- Even if it is true that Lyn is more popular in the East, Little Mac is infinitely more popular than Lyn in the West, and he was recently rebooted in a wii game so there is more reason to put him in the game. I don't think they would really like to make assist based characters into fully fledged ones.
Samus in a thong. I mean thats where the series is headed RIGHT NINTENDO ?!
on a serious note: Amaterasu
We obviously won't know anything about the game before it's out. All I'm saying is that 50 characters isn't unrealistic, especially with the number of fighting games that have more than that number of characters. Also, there probably will be several clone characters.I think that is crazy to expect 50 characters in any fighting game ever, ESPECIALLY if you do not want clones in the game something that they worked to stamp out with Brawl which had just about as big a team as you can get away with.
2. Again, what? You do realize Fire Emblem was practically unknown here when Roy and Marth were added to Melee, right? Then why would Nintendo need to add them for Melee to represent a series that was very unpopular in the West? The answer is because these characters were known in Japan, just like you mentioned with Lucas. And the rest of the characters I listed that you deem as "irrelevant" are also popular in Japan as well as somewhat in the West. How the hell does Porky being a boss character remove him from being a character? You do realize that Bowser, Ganondorf, Wario, Mewtwo, Meta Knight, King DeDeDe, Wolf... are "boss characters" too right? And those are all playable characters. Plus, you probably don't realize what Porky could play like because you know next to nothing about his character.
And Skull Kid, the 2nd most popular Zelda villain from a large poll and part of the 10 most wanted additions to SSBB before the game was released is not a relevant character and is not well known? There you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not sure about Vaati though, but I know he was part of the poll for the most wanted SSBB additions and he didn't fail in the standings there.
3. Yeah, Golden Sun isn't as popular as Fire Emblem is here now so I don't know why I wrote that. But, at the time of SSBM's release, Golden Sun was more popular than Fire Emblem here in the West. And you should read what I actually wrote under my roster.
4. Impossible. From what you're saying, this is the game release timeline:
2011-2013: New Pokémon generation is in development + is released
2014: New SSB game
If a Pokémon from a newer generation passed this one was to be included in SSB5, the new Pokémon game would need to be released before SSB5 so the dev team could actually develop the character. This would require a ton of time so several months of space between the newer Pokémon release and SSB5. So not only is it an anomaly that a new Pokémon generation game would be released 2 years after the previous one, not to mention that they didn't even release the compilation Pokémon title between Black & White yet, but you think that they would release an SSB5 that late after the Wii U's release? Especially with Sakurai essentially saying that he needs to hurry the game's development?
5. I don't think the dev team for SSB5 care much at all about what characters are popular in the West. You proved it yourself: they included Lucas, Ness, Roy and Marth when none of those characters were ever generally popular here. And we don't even know if Assist Trophies will even make a return in SSB5, so that point is kinda void.
6. What I posted isn't a prediction in the least. Check the title of this thread: "Character Wishlist". What I posted are the characters I wish were included in SSB5, not that I think will be included. Actually, I'd be surprised if even one of the new characters in my roster are added in SSB5.
