Zipper Interactive returns to the SOCOM series with a new installment on PlayStation 3 that features squad-based gameplay, 32 player online modes, and PlayStation Move support.
Zipper Interactive Developing SOCOM 4
Wait, let me do that again.
It's SOCOM 4!!!! Here are three screenshots!!!!
There. Somewhere, Method Man--enough of a SOCOM fan to include references to it on an album--just dropped whatever smoking device he was using and grinned. He's not quite sure why, but he'll know soon enough.
The game is scheduled to be released this fall on the PlayStation 3 and will contain a full single-player component as well as 32-player multiplayer.
You may remember that Zipper was the original developers of the SOCOM series, which quickly became the main reason that the PS2's crazy online adapter thing was worth owning. While Zipper was focused on MAG, Slant Six released SOCOM: Confrontation as a downloadable PS3 release, and it... didn't really do anything for me. I don't think that's entirely Slant Six's fault, of course, but I'll definitely say that it's good to hear that the original studio is back on mission.
Geoff Keighley's GameTrailers TV will exclusively run the first video from SOCOM 4 tonight on Spike TV.

If they optimised the game like God of War III, and thought of some really intense military situations then i could see this game being awesome-sauce
this is awesome, i played socom 1-3 (also the first psp game) and even confrontation, so this game can not come soon enough!!
(I'll just repeat myself here)
Don't we already have MAG? I'd rather we wait a year or two for another SOCOM and Sony devote resources to something else while we see how MAG does.
I quite liked the new PSP game (Fireteam Bravo 3) so I have some interest in this. It's just a little too hardcore for me.
Also, for those disappointed with the announcement -- Syphon Filter PS3, Starhawk and MotorStorm 3 are all totally still in development. Just be patient.
Comes out this fall... and Zipper had been working on MAG. Hmmm, seems to me like they hired some more guys at Zipper to make this while the true Zipper guys were making MAG. So they could say Zipper is making this, but who really knows if the guys who made the first Socom actually touched this.
Confrontation is fine now, after all the patches. Either way that game (and MAG) will simply be a wasteland the second this comes out. I cannot wait.
Nice to see Zipper back making SOCOM. I think out of any game I've ever owned, S2 got the most playtime. Hopefully they can make something as good as 2.
Visions of breach on sandstorm are dancing through my head....strange motion in my pants. All is right with the world
I stopped playing socom with confrontation cuz it sucked so much ass, and I didnt feel like sitting around and waiting for patch after broken patch....
This might make me get a ps3 again, after the massive let down that Socom was..
"this is the big announcement? Lame. "
They didn't say big, they said surprise, and I don't think anyone expect SOCOM 4 as the announcement.
I'm really surpised that Zipper is moving on to another project so quickly (well I guess they've had this going for a while). I wonder why they would get something ready for the same year rather than support MAG for a while
"I recommend you read PSblog post before you go of on a rant like this. Zipper is big studio, 150 ppl and still hiring that's two teams just like Insomniac, that is two teams. MAG will get support for long long times, those are their words, they say they have team devoted to MAG and it's not like they began working on Socom 4 yesterday, games seems to be far into debelopment, hell it is coming this year. Calm down and read."

Finally !!! I hope they go back to 8v8 ! Now that there experiment with Mag * BF:bc2 is better IMO* We can get back to Socom my first ever online shooter that i played *Tears*
