Sega reaches for the stars. Comes back with the sun.

Sonic in 3D has always been a controversial subject. Sonic has had a slight dip in quality since going to the third dimension,  although 3D sonic games have been improving over time, gimmicks and side characters made fans either happy or disappointed. Sonic Colors is a sign that Sega is listening.

Sonic Colors story isn't too detailed, and I think I perfer it that way. The storys of games like Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) have provided serious drama, but this is far more cartoony and light hearted. It takes a backseat to the gameplay, and is decently amusing for what it is.

The gameplay in Sonic Colors is simply amazing. Everything thing you would want from a Sonic game is here. The levels are fast, challenging and fun. The gameplay mostly is like the daytime stages of Sonic Unleashed but with some changes. Most notably, the Wisps. The Wisps are aliens that Sonic can wield to have different abilitys. Some, like the Shadow Wisp and the Green wisp work great, while others like the Yellow Wisp take some getting used to. The game supports multiple control methods, and I am sure one of them will suit you. My personal favorite is the Classic Controller Pro. The boss fights are okay, some of them are incredibly easy, others are somewhat tedious. They aren't perfect, but they don't really take away from the game too much. The game's seven worlds provide enough content, although the game is quite short. There is also Game Land, that provides a few extra challenge stages. You can also collect 180 gold rings hidden in the levels if you want an extra challenge.

The game's soundtrack is mostly great. Songs in stages like Aquarium Park are awesome, and have a classic Sonic sound. The theme song "Reach for the Stars" fits the mood of the game quite nicely and the 8-bit remixes of the songs in Game Land are just wonderful.

Sonic Color's graphics are some of the best on the Wii. Each world has a distinct look, and has nice shading and lighting effects. The in-game cutscenes look a little less good, but are far from bad. The different angles that the camera points during the games more cinematic parts look excellent.

Sonic Colors just may be the best Sonic game in a very long time, and is an incredible platformer in it's own right. My only real problem with it is it's length, but that should not stop Sonic fans from buying this awesome game.

Sonic Colours? I barely Sonic know hers! 0

Sonic Team really nailed the concept this time around. Sure, the daytime Sonic Unleashed levels were fun, but there were like about 8 of them and you had to navigate a menu for 20 minutes just to find them. In Sonic Colours, every aspect of the gameplay has been streamlined for the enjoyment of the player- loads of "daytime" style levels with stellar design, great gameplay mechanics (including the titular wisp "colours") and let's not forget some of the best Sonic game music since Sonic 3's funk...

      Win 0

This is the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2! The Sonic Cycle is officially broken. This game has THE best graphics on the Wii, and one of the best musical scores on the Wii (what else would you expect from Sonic Team?). The only problem with the music is a sad lack of Crush 40...but, oh well. The gameplay is non-stop fun, and the Wisps actually make it more enjoyable. Whats more, if you decide the Wisps aren't your thing, you can skip over them entirely. Overall, this is in the top 10 Wi...
