
Sega's mascot, the fastest hedgehog in the East and West, has turned 18 today in Europe and North America. In Europe this makes him entirely legal to guzzle down booze and play with spiky bush.
On June 23rd 1991, Sonic hit the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, where he sped onto a wave of success as a anti hero to the great Mario of Nintendo fame. Since November 2007, the first game has sold over 4 million copies worldwide with the entire franchise selling over 50 million as of late last year.
