I recently picked up the Sonic the Hedgehog collection for the Gamecube at a yard sale and played through the first two games. To be honest I was surprised at how well they held up but one thing troubled me and that was towards the end of both games. Before you get to the last boss you chase Dr. Robotnik before he hops into his final killing device but you can never catch up to him meaning that Dr. Robotnik is faster then Sonic the Hedgehog.  This is like Gorilla Grodd being able to outrun the Flash or Stephen Hawking outrunning Usain Bolt it just hurts my brain.

I really don't have any idea.  And honestly, I don't have much to contribute to this conversation other than to say that your Gorilla Grodd reference gave me a hearty chuckle.

I've actually never played those levels before, but I'm guessing that Sonic has to run through all the loops and other obstacles, while Robotnik can just fly over everything, provided he actually uses one of his flying machine thingies, again, I've never played those levels so I don't know. 
Otherwise, well.... It's a game.

Hedgehogs are slow in reality, it its pretty common knowledge that Sonic the Hedgehog drops a lot of speed and acid which is why things look and act the way they do in game...

We all know that if Dr. Robotnik was ever truly serious about killing Sonic he would simply have to leave a discarded McFlurry container near him. It is common knowledge that McFlurry containers are Kryptonite to hedgehogs.
