I've got two solutions: 

1. At the beginning of the game, Dr. Robotnik traps Sonic in a two-dimensional world. All of Sonic's lame-ass friends are locked out, and it's up to Sonic to defeat Eggman and escape the world. Then, you get to play through a bunch of levels. In hand-drawn, detailed 2D graphics. No Werehog, no human love interest, no stupid quirks at all... just Sonic, running really fast.
2. Take him into a forest, and put a bullet in his head. Bury him and remember him fondly... but for the love of god, don't desecrate his corpse by making more shitty games.

My solution is to just stop making them. They've never been good, will never be good, and are a complete waste of time for both the developer and the players.

This is time they could be using ruining Ristar and Vectorman and Comix Zone with reboots, kill the hedgehog.

On second thought I dunno OP.  Shadow and Knuckles are a problem and it's cool you want to off them, but replacing them with Brick would probably just create an even bigger problem i.e. the creation of Brick.  Then Team Sonic would need an even bigger problem to get rid of Brick .. and how could you possibly get rid of a super saiyan 3 hedgehog?

Slow and steady wins the Race...hmm, sorry sonic.  You may have been loved  by people more than Mario in the past, but that ended long ago.  Mario is still on top, putting out better, less crappier games than yours...lol.

If this is a joke post, bravo for sticking with it and not showing any signs of sarcasm. 
 
If you're serious... I'm going to cry.

I think the last thing we need is more characters introduced.  One of the main problems is the over abundance of throw away characters..  Shadow was terrible and Silver is even worse, why introduce yet another hedgehog character?
 
The other problem is the melodrama, they keep trying to make the stories very serious and dark, and it just doesn't work.  2006 was the absolute worst for this, but pretty much all the 3D games have suffered from it..  I think Mario manages to work because it doesn't take itself too seriously and always sticks to the light hearted approach.  Unleashed definitely handled the style a lot better, but what you're suggesting here is right back the the SA2/2006 approach.
 
And of course Sega don't seem to know how to actually make a Sonic game anymore..  So I'll give them a hint.  The original games weren't purely about speed, they also had great level design and platforming elements.. 

My solution for Sonic: Stop buying the games then SEGA will stop making them.

Before I'm taken out to the firing squad, I'd just like to say I could go for a Sonic Adventure 3. without Big. or Amy. or Robots.

And whats with the new evil guy, "The Dark King"? Where was he back then? And the underworld thing was just made up, like the fact that someone can continue to impress fans. At this point, i rather be playing tetris than sonic!  Thats right, hes that screwed, at this point, SEGA should be making his grave by now, and stop trying to bring it back to life. Somehow we all know, if they try even harder, theyre going to be making copyrighted games for sonic. So i think sonic should go meet with Death now, cuz now to this fact, hes obsolete. "

Just make all the new Sonic games 2d sidescollers with 3d graphics and release them for $20 on psn/xbl.  That would make a hell of a lot more money than the shit they're calling Sonic now.
