Agree. But I think I'm one of the only people out there who loved the art direction of Sonic 3 & Knuckles (the "more attitude!" version of Sonic. I just loved the quality of the animation) just as much, if not more than, Sonic 1 and 2's version of the blue hedgehog. The anime style that the game has taken on isn't nearly as good. It just serves to make it feel even more like a kid's game.
But the biggest flaw to any modern Sonic game, especially the modern 2D ones on handheld platforms, is the level design.
